Castlerahan V Cavan Gaels

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Hopefully it's a good competitive final. Castlerahan tend to struggle for points in tight games and I doubt very much that 10 points will be enough to beat the Gaels. You'd imagine goals will be needed by them to win but with the way Mackey is playing anything is possible. He is something else and if Gaels are to indeed lift the cup I hope it's from playing football and not targeting him. I seem to remember the last time these two met in the Championship the Gaels had about 5 different players take yellow cards for over the top tackling on Mackey. He was crippled end of the game and wasn't right for a full year after. Not what you want to see.

I remember it well I hope Gerry does not allow it to go on but I don't think Jason would allow that kind of behavior on his watch.

Best of luck to both teams on Sunday. May good football be the real winner.
I've great respect for the Gaels and for what the have achieved as a club down through the years.
Even they wouldn't begrudge Castlerahan the Cup if they are good enough to go and win it.
Mackey and Flanagan deserve a Championship medal but as they both know you have to go and earn it on the day.
Hoping for a good open game and maybe Mattie and Co might be able to call a few new faces in to next years panel.

It is what they do, they target the danger man of the opposition put a tagger on him. Pull and drag out of him till he gets a yellow and then switch the man. I can guarantee it will happen to Mackey especially if he is out the field and not inside. Don't see a lot wrong with it, they are just playing to their strengths as they can afford to get black/yellow cards, they have such quality on the line. You will find most good teams do this. It is cynical but it's what goes on in the modern game unfortunately. Just look at Lee Keegan doing a man marking job constantly holding and harassing his man off the ball.

So people are starting to make excuses for the Gaels winning already....its called football folks....all the good teams do it...
Either Castlerahan are good enough or they're not. Its a mans game, Mackey is a County Footballer with loads of experience, if he cant look after himself, then he shouldn't be playing.

Mackey wasn't right for a full year afterwards....bit of an exaggeration that!

It was more than a year before Cian was back playing to his best for the Club after that particular semi-final encounter. If people want pulling and dragging to be part of this "mans" game then put it in the rules allow an Aussie rules style tackle it would make it easier for the referee and would eliminate the fall over merchants buying easy free kicks. Its the lack of consistency that annoys most people. Hopefully Cian will spend the majority of the game in scoring positions.

Mackey missed out on the International Rules at the time, end of 2013. Think he missed most of the League with Cavan in 2014, only came on as a sub against Armagh in championship.

Crotty and Eamon Reily were fiery players, now selectors. . doubt they will be telling the Gaels to hold back.

Grotty and Reilly were tough players. Not one bit dirty.
Mackey is well able to look after himself.
The Gaels are well able to play football and won't need to target any opposition players with dirty tactics to get a result.
They have quality all over the field and in the subs too.
I'd fancy the Gaels by 4/5 easily.
Castlerahan won't beat the Gaels by scoring 11/12 points

They underachieved last year with Forde. Ended up in a Relegation play off. Forde should be a help for Castlerahan, regarding match ups ..

Crossmaglen being knocked out, has opened, things up a bit on that side of the draw in Ulster. Cavan/Antrim winners play the Armagh/Fermangh champions in Ulster Semi's.

Scoring positions...Castlerahan will put 13 men behind the ball and Mackey wont cross the 45m line, its in their DNA.

I presume the Gaels will be prepared for the mass defence and breaking attacks from castlerahan.

They are no dummies.

Crossmaglen weren't there last year either. Biggest threat this year will come from Kilcoo, Slaughtneil and Kilcar .
Great chance for the winners next Sunday to get to a Semi at least if not a final

They were expecting Crossmaglen to get back to winning ways after being beaten last year. No Jamie Clarke against Maghery didn't help things..

Kilcar haven 't won the Donegal Championship yet.
