Replying To Inaroundehouse:  "Mattie is only in in first year. Give him time. The last man had 5 years plus a few years with the u21s and as a selector too.
The man needs time .
Look at the down manager Burns , only showing improvement now and he there a few years.
Same goes for Kildare manager .
Bit of a run in the qualifiers . Let him put his stamp on things for 2/3,years.
I think he's the type that won't hang around if he don't see improvement.
I'd expect a return to div 1 next year and maybe a last 12 or 8 this year."
davy fitz is also in his first year......

I really thought McGleenon would change things and be more attacking, but perhaps when he saw what was at his disposal, he realised that he couldn't, or else he just couldn't change the mindset thats was instilled into them."
What are you on about? We are still in the championship and will win this weekend. Where you will stand then?

At least wait until we are out of the championship before judging McGleenan et al!!

we are NOT in the championship. Down and Tyrone are still in the Championship in Ulster... We are in the QUALIFIERS to try to QUALIFY to get back into the Championship at quarter final stage. Thats why they are called Round 2 qualifier draws etc, not Championship !!!!

Mattie says he'd love to make the quarter finals. That seems to be the height of our ambition. A day out in Croker !! We lost the Ulster Championship quarter final, and our ambition is a jolly to Croker.
Our ambition should be to win our Provincial championship. Being realistic thats a huge step and I can't see us winning it for at least another ten years. Not with the current squad, and not with a manager with a low achievement threshold. I'm not being negative but realistic when i say that the Cavan team to win a Senior Ulster title hasn't been born yet !!!!

Sadly it's not about winning the Ulster championship any more. It's about progressing as far as you can so if that's through the qualifiers so be it.
The last manager wasn't too bothered about the Ulster championship. His claim to fame was beating London in Croke park and good luck to him.
If we can get another day out in Croke park why not take it?
We are never going to beat the kerrys Dublins of this world with there present form or panels so let's take what we get.
Yes it would be lovely to win Ulster but it's not the end of the world if we don't.
Years ago it was when there was no back door.
But only 1 team can win Ulster each year and there still 5 Ulster teams left in the all Ireland series. You think there worried how they progress?

You're talking about a different sport. Why not stick to football and name a manager in his first season who is doing better than Mattie?

I think everyone is going to give Mattie a chance first year and all that ,, just the worrying thing about him I think is his lack of experience, he seems to think every game is as he would say "fabulous " and some of his decisions with choice of players and posistion of players is worrying . I think for him to survive at inter county level he has to get out of the honey moon period fast.

I'm just me nobody else. Nobody asked you to agree with my views.
There more than me thinks the last management instilled a defensive belief that the present management are finding it hard to change because that's the mentality that's been drummed into players this past 5 years.
Mattie deserves time . Just like the last man got. And he got plenty of it , until the players themselves decided they wanted change.

We are not in the championship, we are in the qualifiers!! Ahahahahaha. I wasnt aware that the qualifiers is a different competition. Give me strength.

Maybe stick to Father Ted lad as you clearly are not getting any joy from Gaelic Football and (supporting) your county.

Plenty more sports out there, nobody is forcing you to watch or be involved in this!

At Inter County level bart_simpson to be honest with you it would be very difficult to fail at the gaels. ??? Sure you could have named many this year here is another for you Keogan Castlerahan, Sheridan Killygarry if you were at club level ? but as stated many times the step up from club to county is huge. Jason like the other two managed before with other clubs not with a huge amount of success.

The qualifiers is NOT the championship, hence the difference when it is announced on TV, Papers, Radio etc etc. eg. Ulster Championship Final, Round 2 of the "Qualifiers"... it's beginning to remind me of "these cows are small, the ones out there are far away" !

It is a competition to allow teams who have been knocked OUT OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP , to qualify to re-enter the championship at quarter final stage.

I support my county but to be honest what I'm seeing on the field brings little joy. We are content with being a second rate team, where winning the Ulster Championship is no longer the goal, but to go the back route for a day out in croke Park. And that is it in a nutshell. A day out !!!
The last few occasions when were were there we were so negative it beggared belief. We were cagey against London, played 2 sweepers against Kerry and were afraid of Tyrone.

I've seen nothing so far this year to get excited about, but then I probably missed out on the sale of Rose Tinted glasses in Eurosaver as these forums appear to be for those with blind faith and blinkered vision.

If we accept second rate as the norm then we will never progress. We are in all honesty a mid table division 2 team. As you say, no one is forcing me to watch it so I think I will take your advice and save my time, money and energy.

I'm not sure Jon. However keep encouraging your 2 year old Nephew to play sport ! Any sport. it doesn't have to be football. The important thing is it teaches them team work, the benefits of physical exercise, communication skills and teaches them valuable life lessons, such as the joy of winning and how to deal with disappointment.
Representing their club, no matter what sport they choose gives them pride in their locality, a sense of achievement and a sense of community.
I'm sure at 2 years of age that he is not terribly concerned with the poor quality of football being played by Cavan teams at present. Maybe he can be one of the leaders of a new generation that will bring success back to Cavan.
I wish him success, happiness and good health in his life, no matter what sport he chooses, if any.

What has he won?

Don't get me wrong, I know he's on a good run but the above question is the exact type of begrudging sh*** you'd come out with if we lost an all ireland semi final.

As stated above, there are plenty of other sports and you'd be better served spending your time following one of them than whinging and moaning about petty technicalities to suit your own agenda.

I can't imaging he's the same in the dressing room as he is in front of the tv cameras. Plenty of managers come out with the usual cliches of "oh we're delighted to get over this tough match" etc.

I agree on the changes but I think without the injury to Killian Clarke we'd have all named 13 of the 15 starters for the offaly game. He's getting to a settled team but at the same time doesn't look afraid to mix it up at times (which was one think posters on here lambasted TH for not doing).
