Mayo captain Cathal Freeman is certain that now is the time to push on and try to get to the next level following their NHL Division 2B success last Sunday.

The Connacht side caused something of a surprise by defeating Down in the 2B final, but it was a victory that they thoroughly deserved as every player played their part in the success.

Freeman led by example and his performance earned him a place on this week's hoganstand.com Hurling Team of the Week, but he stressed to the Western People that they must capatilise on the interest that the win has generated in the county.

"To improve any situation you need to change the culture, and winning breeds winning, and that rolls onto more development and more people getting interested in the game," said Freeman.

"Between the Tooreen campaign and now this, I've noticed myself that the level of interest and attention hurling is getting within Mayo is developing all the time and that can only lead to more kids playing the game, and that's the only way we are going to develop the sport."
