Bernard Flynn admits he was baffled by some of Galway’s tactical decisions during Sunday’s embarrassing Connacht SFC final defeat to Roscommon.

Ahead by five points at the break, the Tribesmen imploded thereafter at Salthill, managing to register only two points during the course of a dreadful second-half display.

“Galway will wonder what went so, so wrong. But they need to have a bit more stomach for the big battles. Some of their players have a soft centre, and it’s something I’ve highlighted in recent years,” the Meath legend writes in The Irish Daily Mirror.

“Some of their tactical calls baffled me. To change the ‘keeper before the game surely sent a collective shiver down the spine of the panel because Ruairi Lavelle has had his issues between the posts in the last few years.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when Ian Burke and Michael Daly were taken off with a few minutes left – astounding decisions when they had been involved in four points between them in a tight game. It made no sense because it was late in the contest and they badly needed scores.”
