Fears are growing that plans to develop a new 12,000-capacity stadium in Dundalk could be rejected at next Monday’s meeting of Louth County Council.

According to the Dundalk Democrat, the matter was due to be voted on at last month’s Council meeting, only to be taken off the agenda amid rumours that it didn’t have the support required to be passed. It’s understood that a number of Councillors have an issue with the €400,000 fee agreed by Louth County Manager Joan Martin and Louth GAA for the 12-acre site near DkIT, while others want to see the county ground remain in Drogheda.

If the plan is rejected, it would be a huge setback to Louth GAA who voted overwhelming in favour of it in September and whose current home in Drogheda falls well short of modern standards.
