Former Meath footballer takes to the saddle

Ian Kearney

Former Meath footballer Ian Kearney will take to the saddle over the coming months for a worthy cause.

Kearney, who was a member of Sean Boylan's county squad between 1989 and '93, is switching codes to take part in the upcoming Corinthian Challenge Charity Three-Race Series to raise funds for the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund.

The two-time Leinster SFC winner is one of eighteen participants in the third ever Corinthian Challenge Charity Race Series which gets up and running at the Curragh on Sunday.

As part of the challenge, each jockey has to raise €10,000 (through sponsorship or fundraising) and a recent race night in Ryan's Bar, Navan has helped Ian towards the target.

The remaining two races will take place at Ian's native track Navan and Leopardstown on 23 September and 27 October, respectively.
