No let-up in Royals' injury woes

February 27, 2020

Meath stand for the National Anthem prior to the 3rd round qualifier against Kerry in Navan.

Meath may be hot favourites for demotion back down to Division 2, but it’s fair to say that Andy McEntee’s charges haven’t had much luck in their Allianz League campaign four rounds in.

The Royals lost out to Kerry by three points this past Sunday in Killarney, missing seven of the side which battled it out with the Kingdom in the Super 8s a little over six months ago.

Next up is a clash with Padraic Joyce’s Galway side in Navan on Sunday, with Andy Colgan, Seamus Lavin, Shane Gallagher, Daragh Campion, Shane Walsh, Ben Brennan, Michael Newman, Shane McEntee, Padraic Harnan and Niall Kane all on the injured list.

Walsh, who featured against Mayo three weeks ago, had been due to line-out in his county’s Leinster U20FC semi-final against Dublin last Saturday but was ruled out after picking up an injury in mid-week.

To that end, it’s no surprise to see the high flying Tribesmen coming to Pairc Tailteann as 4/9 favourites against the heavily depleted hosts whom are in need of points fast to hold on to their Division 1 status.
