Farce as U21 team will play in 2018 and '19 championships in same week

February 23, 2019

Galway fans fly their flag.

This is farcical.

The 2018 Galway U21HC is running late, so much so that the first round of the 2019 version will start just four days after the '18 final is played.

That means Clarinbridge, who will face Ardrahan in the delayed 2018 decider next Wednesday evening under lights in Duggan Park, Ballinasloe, will be in action again next Saturday in the 2019 U21HC against Kilnadeema-Leitrim.

So if they win the 2018 final and are beaten in the first round of the 2019 championship, it could be the shortest reign of any champions.

The 2018 semi-finals were played in mid-January when Clarinbridge defeated Castlegar and Ardrahan were two-point winners over Athenry.
