Cork selector Pat Ryan is in no doubt that they must utilise the National League to its full potential this year.

Like all teams in Division 1A, Cork have one eye on the All-Ireland SHC championship, but Ryan stressed as part of their preparation for the clash with Tipperary in the Munster championship, they will be going all out in the league starting with this weekend's trip to Salthill where they will face Galway.

Speaking to the Southern Star he said: "We definitely need to do well in the league in order to build up a bit of confidence, although our main focus is obviously on the championship game against Tipperary on May 22nd.

"As is always the way with a Cork hurling team, we'll be trying to win every game, but we're under no illusions about how competitive the league is. We certainly have very tough opener against Galway up in Salthill on Sunday."
