Harnedy and Delaney can serve suspensions in dead-rubber

Cork's Seamus Harnedy and Conor Delaney of Kilkenny.

Cork's Seamus Harnedy and Kilkenny's Conor Delaney will be able to serve their one-match suspensions in next weekend's meaningless Allianz Hurling League Division 1A 'relegation' playoff at Nowlan Park.

Both players were issued with straight red cards against Tipperary and Wexford respectively yesterday, but won't miss the start of the championship.

With no relegation from Division 1A this year, the 'relegation' playoff will only serve to confirm placings in next year's ravamped Division 1.

Kilkenny manager Brian Cody questioned the need for such a game after yesterday's defeat to Wexford.

"All I know is we were asked during the week whether we were happy to let one team go into one group and the other go into the other," he said.

"I certainly would think that would be the sensible thing to do. It would be a futile match really - but whatever happens, happens."
