Meyler: championship will be different

Cork's manager John Meyler

Cork manager John Meyler believes that this Sunday's NHL Division 1A clash against Clare will have no bearing on their Munster SHC opener in May.

The sides will clash in the new look format to the Munster SHC later on this year, but they have the small matter of the NHL to contend with first as both outfits look to add to their points tally.

Clare have won their opening two matches, while Cork have one win and a loss so far. Meyler feels that the league is serving its purpose for the year ahead.

"I expect a really competitive game," Meyler told the Clare Champion. "Both teams as with all Division 1A teams, are trying to be competitive, to win matches and blood new players. The Munster championship this year will be a whole new ball game."

Meanwhile, Cork look set to be without defender Damien Cahalane who is on the injured list, but their Kanturk contingent should return after their All-Ireland exploits.
