Donal Óg Cusack has withdrawn his appeal against Cork County Council's decision to refuse him planning permission to build a new home near his home town of Cloyne.

The Clare senior hurling coach and selector, who is currently living at Ballinacurra near Midleton and is a native of Chapel Street in Cloyne, had sought to build a four bedroomed house on the site of an existing cottage about 1km from Cloyne. But his planning application was turned down on the basis that he has no ties to the 'local rural area' at Knocknamadderee, and that his main connection is to the Cloyne urban area.

There would be no such restrictions if Cusack was to seek planning in the Cloyne urban area.

According to the Irish Times, the former All-Ireland winning Cork goalkeeper has told An Bord Pleanála he wishes to withdraw his appeal against the planning authority's decision.
