Clare supremo Donal Moloney admits that the county have gone backways in hurling terms over the last few years.

Moloney who guided the county to All-Ireland under-21 success and was manager of the intermediate side beaten by Kilkenny in this year's All-Ireland final, feels that there is a lot of work to be done to get the county back competing at the highest level again.

"We have got to reflect on where we are at and we have got to get back up," Moloney told the Clare Champion.

"Physicality is something that has to be looked at. These are the biggest most powerful lads we have; that's a reality. Suddenly, in the last couple of years, we seem to be on the backfoot in terms of physicality.

"There is a huge amount of work being done in terms of guys catching the ball in the air but the physicality goes with it. They have trained very hard all year and I am very proud of them. They have tried very hard but it is very disappointing."
