"The man is capable of saying anything"

Brian Cody says Ger Loughnane's criticism of Galway was "absolutely not right and not remotely true".

The Clare legend labelled the Tribesmen "gutless" following their Leinster final defeat to Cody's all-conquering Kilkenny, but they certainly seemed to have plenty of guts when they eased past the Banner County in Sunday's All-Ireland quarter-final at Thurles:

"They went out to maybe prove everybody wrong if you like, but they went out to play as well as they possibly could," Cody notes in The Irish Independent. "Seemingly they got a fair bit of criticism, I have no idea what kind of reaction there was in Galway.

"Obviously everybody speaks about what Ger Loughnane said and whatever, but Ger says as he says. That's fair enough - not fair enough, but it's the way he is. Personally, if it was being said about ourselves it wouldn't concern me.

"Everybody knows it was absolutely not right and not remotely true. Galway are an excellent team. Of course it was wrong and they went out and were excellent against Clare. They have great hurlers.

"I suppose Ger has to fill column inches too and sometimes could be stuck for something to say. I would know Ger well from a long time ago, and the man is capable of saying anything."
