Cusack Park plans hit a snag

Cusack Park Ennis

Clare GAA's plans to redevelop Cusack Park have hit a stumbling block after the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanala.

The Government department is objecting to the county board's plans to carry out works immediately adjacent to Ennis Friary, which is a national monument. The appeal raises architectural heritage and archaeological concerns and, among other things, is seeking clarity in relation to managing match-day traffic.

Clare County Council had granted planning permission for the €2.3 million development in October, subject to 11 conditions.
