Clare hurling may be at something of a crossroads in many people's eyes, but under-21 manager Donal Moloney is optimistic for the future.

The seniors failed once again at the qualifier stage of the All-Ireland SHC, while the under-21s three-year reign in Munster came to an end last week.

Much has been made of Clare's year in all competitions, but Moloney pointed out to the Clare Champion that there was still a good number of players available for next year's under-21 grade.

"Ten or 11 of this team are eligible again next year, that's a big number," said Moloney. "The future is bright but we have to keep working. We can never take anything for granted.

"There is a tremendous crop of young hurlers in Clare from the last few years and looking at this bunch, there are tremendous are tremendous players.

"We have to recognise in this competition that every day you go out, the teams they are coming up against are prepared to the end degree and are doing everything to knock them."
