Stolen defibrillator could have cost a life

July 11, 2015

A young footballer is recovering in hospital after a defibrillator was used to revive him.

Is there anything thieves won't take these days?

When a man travelling from Kilkee to Limerick last Sunday became ill, he stopped at a shop in Lissycasey to seek assistance. A local woman rushed to the local GAA grounds to get a defibrillator, only to discover it had been stolen.

Thankfully, another defibrillator was located at the nearby Our Lady of the Wayside Church, and the ill man has since made a full recovery.

John O'Malley of Fergus Rovers ladies football club, which together with Lissycasey GAA club purchased the life-saving equipment, told the Clare Champion: "This is a very serious situation and I would appeal to anybody with any information on this to get in touch with any official of the clubs.

"The two clubs came together six years ago to provide this important piece of equipment. I do regular checks to ensure that the defibrillator is working properly and everything was in order last week when I checked."
