Peace has broken out between Davy Fitzgerald and journalist Peter O'Connell.

Fitzgerald was involved in a heated exchange with the Clare Champion reporter outside the Cusack Park dressing room after last summer's drawn All-Ireland hurling qualifier between Clare and Wexford. O'Connell, a former Clare junior football manager and U21 selector, said at the time that he had decided to confront the All-Ireland winning manager after he had earlier "shouted loudly and aggressively" at him over his criticism of aspects of the Clare management in the local newspaper.

Fitzgerald subsequently banned the journalist from attending press briefings, but they have since decided to kiss and make up with this week's Clare Champion carrying an extensive interview with the Clare hurling manager, which was conducted by O'Connell.

In the interview, the former Clare goalkeeper states: "It was suggested that me and you talk. When it was put to me would I, I said fair enough. We might have had issues in the past.

"Things I wouldn't have been happy about and you have things you wouldn't have been happy about. But listen, this is moving forward.

The way I look at things any more is, I'm not looking into the past, I'm looking forward. That's not going to stop you writing stuff or it's not going to stop me having my opinions and that's it."
