Nicky O'Connell has made a dramatic return to the Clare senior hurling panel.

The U-turn comes a month after O'Connell and Davy O'Halloran both left the Banner set-up in controversial circumstances, with the latter subsequently claiming that the pair had been subjected to humiliating disciplinary treatment.

Clare closed ranks to avoid a divisive fall-out, however, and it is understood that O'Connell participated in a gym and recovery session with the panel in Dromoland last night.

O'Connell is expected to take part in full training with the rest of the squad tonight as the 2013 All-Ireland champions crank up preparations for their Munster championship opener against Limerick on May 24th.
