HS hurling team of the week

March 31, 2015

It would be some team if you could get this XV together.

Fifteen hurlers who caught our eye from a busy weekend of league action.

1. Darragh Egan (Tipperary)

Poacher turned gamekeeper, the ex forward made a number of fine saves between the Premier posts.

2. Liam Ryan (Wexford)

The unlucky Yellow Bellies deserved a man on the team and none better than the giant Raparees star Liam Ryan who did not yield an inch.

3. Peter Kelly (Dublin)

Kept the Limerick sharpshooters at bay. Rapidly developing into the top full back in the game.

4. Shane O'Neill (Cork)

As per usual, tidy and efficient and especially when the storm assisted Wexford were at full flow during the opening half.

5. Joe Fitzpatrick (Laois)

Another accomplished display from the near veteran which helped the O'Moore men secure their Division 1B status.

6. Tadhg De Burca (Waterford)

Catchy name, catchy club description ie. Clashmore/Kinsalebeg and a catchy performance at the heart of the Deise defence.

7. Philip Mahony (Waterford)

Sometimes in the shadow of sharpshooting brother Pauric. The Ballygunner man produced a huge display.

8. Niall McMorrow (Dublin)

Covered every foot of space on the Croke Park surface and shot a couple of nice points.

9. Jamie Barron (Waterford)

Bundles of energy and with the lion hearted Kevin Moran alongside, Galway never got a look in during the vital midfield battles.

10. Tony Kelly (Clare)

Absolutely brilliant. Kilkenny had no answer and maybe here lays the successor to King Henry.

11. Brendan Maher (Tipperary)

Led the Tipp attack and has added badly needed muscle to this sector.

12. TJ Reid (Kilkenny)

Another accomplished performance and what a goal.

13. Shane O'Donnell (Clare)

Lined out at full forward, got his usual goal and led the much daunted Cats defence a merry dance.

14. Mark Schutte (Dublin)

A revelation on the edge of the Limerick square and shot 1-5 from play.

15. Pat Horgan  (Cork)

Handles the hurley as if it were another part of his body. Again top scorer for the Rebels with 10 points in all, three from play.
