Another Clare dual star could be about to throw his lot in with Colm Collins' footballers.

Collins says he is open to the idea of bringing Davy O'Halloran on board when the Allianz League finishes after both he and fellow 2013 All-Ireland medalist Nicky O'Connell were dropped from Davy Fitzgerald's hurling squad for disciplinary reasons.

The Eire Og, Ennis clubman is a highly-regarded footballer and could be about to follow in the footsteps of brothers Podge and Sean Collins and Cathal McInerney, who have opted to concentrate on the big ball code this year.

O'Halloran started all of the Banner's Waterford Crystal Cup games at the beginning of the year, but hadn't featured in the Allianz League before being released from the hurling panel.

"I never closed the door. He was offered a position on the panel at the start. In a county like Clare, there are so few clubs, it's important to never close the door and if he would be interested we'd speak to him," football manager Collins told The Irish Times.

"I know Davy well, he's an excellent footballer and a lovely lad. I'm sure I'll bump into him soon.

"It's not the time of year we would be focusing on that kind of thing, though, games are coming hard and fast, so time is totally taken up with that.

"But we will stick with what we have for the league I would say and there might then be a few changes after it. The U21s were very impressive during the week too.

"Out of respect to the lads who have put in massive effort, though, we'll stick with them for the league and we'll see after that."
