August 06, 2014

Is the football top scorer title in the bag for Galway's Shane Walsh?
Galway's Shane Walsh is now the top scoring footballer in championship 2014 but there are some big names hot on his heels.

Tipperary's Con Sweeney is knocked off the top thanks to five points for the Tribesman in his side's All-Ireland quarter-final loss to Kerry, with Walsh now on 1-29 from five games.

Mayo's Cillian O'Connor is just three points behind (2-23) with an All-Ireland semi-final to look forward to while Conor McManus is in forth spot with 1-21.

From open play Kerry's James O'Donoghue with 1-13 joins Sweeney (3-7) as the leading scorer excluding placed balls. O'Donoghue hit 0-8 in the Munster final and followed that up with 1-5 against Galway, averaging eight points from play per game.

Overall Fermanagh's Sean Quigley has the highest average score per game so far with 11.5.

Quigley has four goals to his name, as does Meath's Michael Newman.

The highest individual game tally so far belongs to Quigley (2-8 v Laois).
