'We weren't going to let go of Liam just yet'

The never-say-die attitude that was a hallmark of Clare's All-Ireland success last year was once again in evidence in last Saturday's pulsating draw with Wexford.

A tremendous second half comeback culminated in centre back Conor Ryan firing the equalising point and forcing extra-time.

"I don't get too many of them, so I just steadied up and tried to put the ball over the bar or we would have been out of the championship," he recalled in the Clare Champion.

"It (never-say-die attitude) is a characteristic of this team. It's not a bad characteristic to have. We weren't willing to let the Liam MacCarthy Cup got just yet. We only gave it back to Croke Park a couple of weeks ago.

"We're just delighted to be there for another day, especially when we went down a man. We weren't looking past today. We couldn't, especially after what happened last year and they (Wexford) are after coming on so much this year.

"We couldn't look past Wexford and they really took the game to us and they brought out the best in us in that second half. Fair play to them and we look forward to playing them again next Saturday."
