In shades of the Jim McGuinness-Declan Bogue controversy two years ago, Davy Fitzgerald has banned a local journalist from attending any future press briefings involving the Clare hurling manager.

Fitzgerald was allegedly involved in an altercation with Clare Champion reporter Peter O'Connell following last Saturday's dramatic draw with Wexford, and the All-Ireland winning manager has since written to the newspaper's editor to inform him that he will not conduct any future interviews with O'Connell. He has also made it clear that he will not give post-match interviews to the print media if O'Connell is present.

Fitzgerald has accused O'Connell of "trying to destroy Clare hurling and succeeding" after an article he wrote in the wake of Clare's Munster SHC semi-final defeat to Cork last month.
