Two of the eight clubs who were due to play in the second round of the Clare SHC this weekend have lodged appeals with the Munster Council against the decision to postpone the games.
Four of the five games fixed for this weekend were postponed on Tuesday night after the Clare senior hurling management decided to invoke the 13-day rule, which leaves county players unavailable for club duty ahead of Saturday week's All-Ireland qualifier against Wexford.
The eight clubs affected by the decision - Sixmilebridge, Cratloe, Ballyea, Clooney-Quin, O'Callaghan's Mills, St. Joseph's, Wolfe Tones and Eire Og - are largely unhappy, with Cratloe and Ballyea having decided to appeal the decision to call off the games.
Cratloe were due to meet county champions Sixmilebridge in a crucial Group 3 encounter on Sunday afternoon, while Ballyea were down to face Clooney-Quin in their Group 1 tomorrow evening.
Clare chairman Michael McDonagh told the Clare Champion: "A decision was made by the CCC to put back four games to either August 3 or 15. We understand the plight the clubs are in and we have to try and help both the clubs and the county team. We felt that by giving a definite date for the re-fixtures, we are doing that.
"At this stage, I would appeal to the people of this county to get behind our county hurling and football teams for the next month. We can never forget what the joy of winning two All-Irelands last year did for this county."
