Clare qualify for IDS Camogie League Division 1 semi-final

April 17, 2014
Clare overcame the loss of a number of key players to seal a place in the Irish Daily Star Camogie League Division 1 semi-final against Cork thanks to a resounding 2-11 to 0-3 victory over Limerick in Clonlara.

The Bannerwomen had to fight tigerishly to eke out a two-point win over the Shannonside neighbours in the final round of the group stages to force a play-off that also involved Galway.

They beat the All-Ireland champions last week and this time around, Limerick proved no match for them.

The opening quarter was very tight with the sides level on 0-1 apiece and that's how it was until the 21st minute, when Ellen Horgan finished to the net after good work from the excellent Niki Kaiser and Laura McMahon.

Clare finished strongly to lead by 1-4 to 0-1 at the interval and Orlaith Duggan scored a spectacular solo goal early in the second half to completely deflate Limerick.

Kaiser and McMahon kept the scoreboard ticking over and they finished with seven points between them, while Niamh Ryan was Limerick's sole scorer.

Clare will now play three-in-a-row chasing Cork on April 26, with the first semi-final between Kilkenny and Wexford taking place this Sunday at WIT.
