Loughane: housewives of the GAA could lose out

Clare legend Ger Loughnane believes the Sky TV deal will spell trouble for GAA fans down the line.
"There is a huge fear among a lot of Clare people I've spoken to that they won't be able to see the county when it comes to the really important matches," Loughnane states in today's Irish Daily Star.
"That may not be the case this time, but what about the next round of deals in three years' time?
"The GAA are underestimating the number of housewives who follow hurling on terrestrial TV and love it.
"If that new audience gained is lost, it would be an absolute disaster.
"Most people in the country don't have Sky and don't want it. They rely completely on the terrestrial channels."
The Sunday Game pundit cast doubt over what Sky will bring to the table in terms of their presentation of gaelic football and hurling.
"Whatever about the faults of The Sunday Game, at least you have people presenting the game who have a great GAA background.
"If Sky bring in people who don't understand the game and what it means to the people, and try to give them a crash course, the whole thing could unravel very quickly."
