Minor football champions returns to action

The Clare minor A, B and C football championship's returns to action with a number of games taking place this weekend.

Minor A football

Kilmurry Ibrickane v Cratloe @ Quilty, Saturday at 12 noon

This game will be a repeat of the previous evening's game when both these sides will square up to each other in the senior quarter-final. The 'Bricks have beaten Eire Og and Wolfe Tones so far but lost out to Cooraclare in round 1. As for their opponents Cratloe, they have beaten Eire Og, Wolfe Tones and Lissycasey so far this year and are looking good for a quarter-final berth. Kilmurry will look to Niall Hickey, Darren Sexton, Seamus Lynch, Adrian Murrihy and Graham Johnson to lead the way. Cratloe will have Enda Boyce, Pauric Collins, Conleith Agnew, Dean and Wesley DeLoughrey in their side.

St. Joseph's Doora/Barefield v Ennistymon @ Gurteen, Saturday at 12 noon

St. Joseph's are undefeated thus far with victories coming over Lissycasey, Eire Og and Wolfe Tones. Ennistymon meanwhile have beaten Cooraclare but lost out to Eire Og and Clondegad. Doora/Barefield will call on the likes of Niall DeLoughrey, Cathal Duggan, Conor O'Reilly, Ja Colleran and Luke Brannock to continue their recent impressive form. Ennistymon are likely to call on Ronan Linnane, Joe McKeown, Cathal Malone, Enda Ralph and Joey Rouine.

Verdict: Doora/Barefield

Wolfe Tones v Clondegad @ Shannon, Saturday 5 pm

Wolfe Tones have lost all their four games this year and will hope to get their first victory when they welcome Clondegad to Shannon. Clondegad are undefeated after winning their three games to date and should record another win here. Key men for the Shannon side are Ross Dunne, Craig O'Brien, Tomas Dineen, David Ryan and William Flynn. For Clondegad Gearoid O'Connell, Tony Kelly, Paul Flanagan, Cormac Donnelly and David Brassil are expected to lead the way.

Verdict: Clondegad

Cooraclare v Eire Og @ Cooraclare, Sunday 2 pm

Cooraclare are having a mixed year with victories being recorded over Kilmurry Ibrickane and Wolfe Tones. Key men for their young side include Joey Martyn, Damien Burke, Darragh O'Dea's and the O' Looney's . Eire Og's only win came against Ennistymon. Important players for them are David Reidy, Ciaran Russell, Conor Stack, Cian Burke and Jack Walsh. Expect Cooraclare to pick up the points here.

Minor division 2

Kilrush v Liscannor/Michael Cusacks/Kilfenora/Tubber @ Kilrush, Saturday 12 noon

Kilrush have had a mixed year beating Parteen and Doonbeg but losing their other three games. As the north Clare amalgamation, they have lost two of their three games but beat Doonbeg in round 2. Kilrush will have Jack Browne, Stan Tarrant and Brendan Foley in their side while the amalgamation can call on the likes of Aidan Malone, Pa Nagle and Diarmuid Blake.

Verdict: Kilrush

Doonbeg v St. Joseph's Miltown @ Doonbeg, Saturday 5 pm

Doonbeg's only victory from five outings came against Parteen in round 1. They look to Eoin Conway, James McInerney and Padraig Nugent to show the way in this game. St. Joseph's only loss from three has came against a fancied Kilmihil side. They can call on the likes of Seanie Malone, Darragh McDonagh and Eoin Corbett to continue their push for the quarter finals.

Minor C final

O'Curry's/Naomh Eoin v Shannon Gaels/Killimer @ Kilrush, Sunday 12 noon

The first minor football final of the year takes place this Sunday in Kilrush with O'Curry's/Naomh Eoin and Shannon Gaels/Killimer battling it out. The west Clare peninsula side saw off the challenge of Coolmeen/Kildysart in their semi final clash by 2-8 to 0-11. Important players for them include Kieran Magner (Naomh Eoin), Jack Scanlan and Eoin Brew (O'Curry's). In the other semi Shannon Gaels/Killimer beat St. Breckan's/Ballyvaughan (4-12 to 0-5). Key players for the Shannon Estuary side are Caimin McMahon (Shannon Gaels), Ruairi Norby and Sean Reynolds (Killimer). These two sides met on the 3rd of August back in Cross when the Gaels/Killimer combo beat the home team by 2-9 to 0-9. It is expected that this weekend's game will be a tight contest but come the full time whistle the minor's of Shannon Gaels/Killimer should be celebrating.
