Henchy: Senior championship is where we wanted to be
October 01, 2008
Clare Ladies captain Louise Henchy admitted that her side was gutted after their All-Ireland IFC final loss to Tipperary at the weekend.
After the game at Croke Park, the Banner County midfielder revealed her own devastation by suggesting that all their good work of securing promotion in the league earlier would not have held a candle if they had been assured of laying in the senior championship ranks next season.
"We'd give away all those things that we won during the year if we'd won today," admitted Henchy.
"We're Division One next year alright in the league but senior championship is where we wanted to be."
The Banner Ladies player also indicated that Clare dressing room had been a place of low morale afterwards.
"We're just gutted inside there. I can't really describe the feeling. Just sick," she said.
While she know her side had missed some glorious chances in the game, Henchy still admitted that she didn't know where it had went wrong for her team on the day.
"I think we probably didn't take our chances when we got them and Tipperary were probably the better team on the day. I'm not too sure. I just don't know where it went wrong," she mulled.
