Keane delighted with All-Ireland win

September 30, 2008
While Clare may have fallen to Tipperary in their hunt for All-Ireland glory at the weekend, one Banner native left Croke Park happy with an All-Ireland medal secured. Niamh Keane of Kilmihil played a vital part in London's 5-5 to 1-11 victory over Derry in the Ladies All-Ireland Junior Football final, while playing at left-half-back. A physiotherapy student at King's College in London, Keane was overjoyed with her side's win over the Oak Leafers and admits that the forwards played an important role in securing the title. "I can't get over it," she enthused. "It was such an intense game. It might have looked like we were ahead throughout but it didn't feel that at all. "But for our goals, we probably wouldn't have managed. Our forwards were outstanding," she added. Incidentally, the Exiles defender was almost not part of the terrific experience after missing her flight from London across the Channel to Dublin due to the memacing traffic in England's capital. "It wasn't our flight technically," explained Keane. "The traffic was an absolute bottle next. We were in the exact same spot for an hour and 20 minutes. We didn't move but we got the first flight out on Saturday."
