Clare manager Colm Collins is confident that new captain Eoin Cleary is the right man for the job.

Following Gary Brennan’s departure from the squad, Collins has turned to the Miltown, St Joseph’s clubman to lead the Banner in 2020.

Cleary has been part of the squad since 2014 and Collins told the Clare Champion that he has earned the right to captain the side.

“Eoin has been fantastic for us over the last few years,” said Collins. “In particular and I think he is someone who deserves his chance.

“He is a real leader around the group anyway, so that type of responsibility is nothing new to him at the same time.

“The way this group has been from day one is that it really is full of leaders, so he will have plenty of help on it. I am delighted for Eoin and I think he will make a fantastic captain.”
