Last year’s beaten finalists Meath are back in the semi-finals of the TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Championship following victory over Wexford today (SUNDAY), with Roscommon waiting in the last four.

Relegated from the senior ranks in 2019, Tipperary had a narrow win over Clare and they will take on Sligo in the second semi-final, with both games taking place at Nowlan Park on 17 August.

Roscommon clashed with Kildare in the first of the quarter-finals on Sunday and having topped Group 4 the Connacht outfitcontinued their bright form in Kinnegad with a 2-18 to 2-10 success.

Kildare had the wind but the sides were level 2-5 to 1-8 at half-time. Aimee O’Connor scored Roscommon’s goal and although Orlaith Sullivan and Neasa Dooley hit back, Roscommon scored the final four points of the half.

Molly Price scored first for Kildare after the resumption but Roscommon took a two-point advantage before the turning point in the 53rd minute when Jenny Higgins scored the winning goal.

Elsewhere, Tipperary were given a massive fright by Clare in their quarter-final at Staker Wallace GAA grounds in Limerick, but they still did enough to secure a 1-13 to 2-8 victory.

Aishling Moloney was the star once again and she scored the first half goal as Tipperary took a 1-5 to 1-4 lead into the break. Tipperary were big 0-20 to 1-4 winners against Clare earlier in the campaign but Niamh O’Dea’s goal kept her side competitive.

The teams traded scores afterwards and O’Dea scored a second goal for a 2-8 to 1-9 lead with 13 minutes remaining. But Moloney scored the last four points as Tipp claimed an important win.

Meanwhile, a battling Wexford display wasn’t enough as they were knocked out by Meath on a 4-15 to 3-14 score-line in Crettyard. The sides had met in the TG4 Leinster IFC Final, but Meath exacted revenge for that defeat with a stylish win here.

Emma Duggan was among the goals in a first half where Meath were 3-7 to 0-11 in front. Aisling Murphy scored as Wexford attempted to spark a revival, but Fiona O’Neill killed that off and Meath held on.

And in the second of the double-header at Kinnegad, Sligo moved into the semi-finals but it was much closer than the 13-point difference earlier in the league.

Ciara Gorman scored the Sligo goal in the first half but that was cancelled out by Marie Byrne and Grainne Egan, with Lauren Boles’ strike decisive in the four-point win for the Yeats county.
