Russell hoping to build on break

Clare's Ciaran Russell feels that they have vindicated themselves following their draw against Tipperary as the NFL heads into a weekend break.

A hard earned draw last weekend followed on from a terrible performance against Meath the week before and Russell admitted it was great to be back in action so quick and put in such a decent performance.

However, he welcomes the break this weekend as Russell played six matches in two weeks due to his college commitments as well.

"We were lucky enough in that we only had the week to wait to redeem ourselves. I think against Tipp we showed we didn't give up when we went a man down," said Russell. We had plenty of heart and I thought we played well.

He added: "The two week break will hopefully suit us. We'll get back to training and work on a few more things. We were looking for the two points against Tipp and while we're happy enough to be still unbeaten at home, we can't afford to go away to Down and be beaten. We need to get points away from home as well."
