Clare joint-managers Donal Moloney and Gerry O'Connor have suffered another setback ahead of the 2018 campaign with the news that rising star Aron Shanagher has suffered cruciate ligament damage.

The 20-year-old Wolfe Tones clubman is expected to miss the entire season as he recovers from the injury. According to the Irish Times, Shanagher sustained the injury before the Banner departed for last weekend's Fenway Hurling Classic in Boston.

The talented forward made his debut in 2016 and helped Clare win their first Allianz League title since 1978. He joins a long list of Banner absentees for the coming season with Patrick Donnellan, Brendan Bugler, Darrach Honan and Colin Ryan having retired, and Aaron Cunningham, Cian Dillon and Colm Galvin gone travelling.
