Sign here if you want Lyng, Mackey, Johnston etc. back Richie, first of all congratulations on 1000 posts, some I have liked more, others less, but fair play to you, because you call things usually as you see them.James Reilly our keeper was one of the famous veterans to get the axe last Autumn, yet he started our first league game, How did he get back in the panel? If the management said that the door was closed to nobody(which seems to be true), wouldn't Seanie have been better advised to show a lot more commitment to the gaels and playing in general in order to get back onto the county panel.Let's not forget there were problems between him and gaels management too.He himself admitted to having a poor year last year, so maybe, just maybe, what Seanie was given was a break to come back with that better attitude everybody keeps on about.Seanie I'm afraid has been misled as to his best course of action. drumavigo , 07/02/2012 at 10:40

But what he fails to mention is he got rid of the experience we had, YES Mackey, Lyng, Sheridan, Clarke, Johnstone, Smith should ALL be on the panel still.Look at the supposedly "hard to handle" players this weekend............Nicky Joyce stormer for Galway. Owen Mulligan brilliant for Tyrone.. Class acts.Proper Managers manage all types ................................................Joyce was dropped last season, went away, worked hard, back in this year..he didn't spit the dummy out and transfer to Cork or somewhere.Mulligan was only a sub last year and then quit the panel, trained hard, now back in the team this year. Again, never heard anything bout him acting like a baby and looking for a transfer.Johnston is the only one going out of his way to ensure he can't/won't be picked for cavan again. All the other players could be called back in if they prove to be good enough I Agree Seanie should have stayed and not look for a transferBut if he was regarded as a disruptive influence in the dressing room how was kicking 10 points for the Gaels in the league going to get him back in the panel???Nobodys questioning his ability,Joyce walked off the galway team, but Mullholland wants all good footballers on board, young and old.Seems he is prepared to man manage.WHAT IS A MANAGERS JOB??. PICK THE TEAM? DO THE PRESS INTERVIEW?? OR MANAGE 25/30 PLAYERS OF DIFFERENT ABILITY, DIFFERENT STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES richiej , 07/02/2012 at 10:10
Sign here if you want Lyng, Mackey, Johnston etc. back You got it in a nutmeg wishfulthinking, very well summed up indeed.Players have always come in and out of panels everywhere, be it for club or county, sometimes because of work, sometimes because of family, sometimes because of attitude, and sometimes even just to have a wee break.I find it just plain childish to give up without a fight and jump ships.Good luck to Seanie on his travels, if he's let transfer, and let's just move on with or without him drumavigo , 07/02/2012 at 10:05

Wexford V Cavan Have to agree with BreffniDubs analysis. We tightened up in defence after the second goal only to concede what was effectively an og. Major difference was the level of experience Wexford had over us. I can't recall seeing a younger Cavan senior team and this is a very decent Wexford team with some really good forwards - Lyng, Barry, Brosnan. Great attitude and spirit in our squad as far as I could see - these lads have to be given time. Hugh the Hollow , 06/02/2012 at 21:14
Starting XV in first league match We need a new full back line! SlipperyFish , 06/02/2012 at 20:39

Wexford V Cavan I think we should step back a bit and try and be a bit more rational in our comments. I was there yesterday and I will try and give a broad fair analysis of the good and the not so good. (1) James was nervous looking from an early stage and just dident inspire his usual confidence. His kick outs also could be a little more varied. Will get better.(2) The full back line was shaky but then when there is spare men running through it is hard to cover all angles. McCormack looked very inexperienced but will get better. Barkey tried very hard. Flanagan i dont think is a corner back but would make a great defensive wing forward and again worked very hard.(3) Barry Watters was very good particularly in 1st half. Paudge was shaky and Dowd was also a bit loose.(4) Mid-field overall dissapointed. Both Givney and Mc Kiernan did not win enough primary poscession and I would use a more hard working grafter with one of them and switch the other one in to full forward.(5) Niall Smith again worked his socks off and did some great things but both Jordan and Mc Dermott are not half forwards!! McDermott still shows a bit of inexperience and has a bit to learn. Only when we switched the wonderful Eugene Keating out did the forward line start moving.(6) Fitzpatrick was brilliant and Galligan tried very hard and got some great frees. Unlucky with the peno. The subs were a bit strange. Great to see young Dunne but still a bit to learn. McCutcheon is big and strong and can do a job for us. Fannin and Mc Kiernan dissapointed. Cant remember if there was another sub.Overall after a poor start the lads played very well for the last 15 mins of the 1st half and got some great points. We were slow to start the 2nd half as well and had we got the peno I feel we could have went on to win the game. Personally I would have liked to see Mc Keever there yesterday as he would have given a bit of steel and maybe Cullivan used as well at some stage. We should have used a sweeper to protect the full back line but hopefully we will learn. But we have to be patient with young players. "Rome was never built in a day" BreffniDub , 06/02/2012 at 20:22
Sign here if you want Lyng, Mackey, Johnston etc. back What about McCutcheon at full back? How would he fair there? Dermot sheridan and waters either sideog him in the full backline should be tried. That would be a fairly tight full back line. richiej , 06/02/2012 at 19:25John McCutcheon does not like playing in the back line very happy in the halfback line so there is no point in doing this to him again tried before he was very uncomfortable I can tell you, nice to have a running half back that is solid. We have leaked too many scores this I am sure will be addressed by Saturday night please god. Dermot is not there would you consider Keith Fannon good work horse. To be fair lads if you are having trouble winning your kick outs you are in deep ship seanorinn , 06/02/2012 at 20:21

Wexford V Cavan I disagree with those who jump to conclusions and blame the full back line, when two goals came directly from our own half backs The third goal the goalie let straight through his hands. Our captain had a very poor game, and the two wing backs were taken off.I ..tought DBarkey done very well on lyng and McCormack was ok as well.R Flanagan looked short on match practiceAs regards to the management Wexford had a simple plan and we could not see this,is there too many cooks and not a head chef, there must be 8 along the sideline and someone in the stand,By the time they all spoke to each other the first half was over.I am not knitpicking,i want Cavan to win every game,There are a few simple things i would do ,and we will win.To be along a sideline you have to be able to read a game, and make changes as soon as you see them. Longford have a lot of pace in thier forwards, our half backs were slow.We need to inject pace and power in there.Midfield have to give quality ball in early and one attack and one hold the middle, both are going forward together. Our forwards are taking the wrong options, let the runners do the running then get the ball to our scoring forwards FAST.Dunne should be tried out let him start and see how he gets on.Give youth its chance.Keating is not a forward and will not bring other forwards into the game,His wide count for the last 4 matches must be 15 or 16.I would play him centre back.My team JFarrelly,DBarkey,SMcCormack,OMinagh,M Brady EKeating,FFlanagan,DGivney GMcKiernan,NSmith,BReilly,PODGE,JBrady NMcDermot,MDunne.Podge sweeping behind midfeild .That is our strongest team by far Pace Power and scores, the quicker that full forward line get the ball the better,10 POINT WIN goldenball , 06/02/2012 at 20:14
