What's happening?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I like everyone am only expressing an opinion here, but the Co Board need a Management Structure with a bit off clout. All GAA clubs & Counties have to look down the line ten years twenty years see where they ll grow prosper or ultimately fall... Its like a business a brand if you like.

Everything that happens in there comes to light through the form off spilled milk.. fallouts in the Senior team, management uncertainty, finance or the lack off it. Breffni one off the jewels off the North in GAA terms running at 20% off its ability.

The lights are fantastic but ??? Whats happening? Think Co Board needs a ten year plan, breffni needs a new sod & the lights need the money required to leave them reliable. use club grounds for Champo matches like 80% off other counties. better atmosphere.

Get a PR who is willing to come out today through all media available & apologise for last night & explain why.

The Championship structure also needs correction. For god sake its not that hard.....

Feel free to ad to this debate & help them as they seem to think the people don't know they re under immense pressure we do but we re all here for the good off Cavan Gaa. reach out to Business people successful people & get advice. Because all I can see is a County with great values but no structures and definitely no direction.........

What's your issue regarding the lights. Last night I had two generators running at full capacity but could anyone legislate for one of the power supplies over heating and going on fire. The most logical thing to do was turn the power off to the source so that nothing serious could happen. Really it's that simple a health and safety decision and a correct call. A transformer burns out remember the lights are there ten years. They have served us well and I expect will continue to do so. Do you think anyone wanted this to happen the answer is no and one can only hope it does not happen again but if we could look into the future maybe we could win the EURO lotto and have plenty dosh. There's an annual inspection of the equipment and all was stated to be in working order. These things happen. Planes fall from the sky, cars. engines stop, boats sink it's part of life get used to it.

denn man, If you try to be smart and initiate a proper discussion about the state of the structures then I suggest you learn to spell as otherwise it takes away any credibility from your statements.

Sean I notice you're very vociferous in your defence of the light failure this year - but not one word was uttered by you about last year's light failure. Would you care to explain the reason for that?

Denn man has some excellent points raised here for discussion.

Typical establishment response - attack the good points made or any challenge to the establishment with bully-boy tactics !!!!!!!!!!!

The lights last year was because timer didn't account for extra time. Yet the county board tried to blame children even though CCTV showed otherwise. If lights were fit for purpose Sean they wouldn't have got fire and the park does need a new sod. Those pitches only have a limited life span. It's a very lifeless sod with little bounce.

Last years incident showed on the mechanism that the emergency stop button had been activated and the result was the lights were turned off. In fairness I went directly into plan B and got the lights back on all within 17 minuets and I feel this should be acknowledged as the match got finished.
Sadly what happened Sunday evening was unavoidable and for safety reasons all power to the 6 masts was turned off.
Regarding the pitch when you see a ball bounce over a six foot odd person well there cannot be too much wrong with the bounce, however if the pitch is saturated it will off course effect the bounce as it would on any pitch.

Good man Seanorinn - glad you got the bounce fixed before the National League kicks off in 2016 - one less excuse for Terry...

As I've said already, Breffni is one of the finest venues in the Country, its very impressive when you stand in the middle of the pitch and look around, a credit to everyone - but lets face it, a lot of money was spent on it, and as we know, money is very short in the County at the moment.

We have a ground capable of matching any ground in the Country, but we need a team to do the same, and until there's a complete revamp at County Board level and a complete revamp of the ACFL and Championship, Cavan Football will never move forward.

He didn't mention the bounce but sure make up what you read Deano.

The H Y L A N & D keys must be worn out on your keyboard.

You need to work it in better though. You're just not trying any more.

I see Donegal are playing their quarter finals this weekend even though they went out of the All Ireland series FIVE weeks after we did. We are still playing games at 10-30 on a Wednesday night. Do we even know the quarter final draw? Or are teams left just training for the fun of it?

So what that Donegal is at quarter final stage. The Ulster club championship isn't till end of October. Cavan champs out first weekend in November so no point having it played of and leaving a two month break till Cavan team out in Ulster.

I heard a great game was served up last nite. Few dodgy Ref decisions but that's 2nd hand info im getting. Breffni was looking well .But yes a wed game that was always going to be close leading to ET ,kids school next morn & players facing work today. No overall Cavan Co Board you failed again.

Fixtures set at a Reactive response rather than Pro Active...

Plus the losers will be out again this weekend. So three games in space of a week. Leaving them at a disadvantage. Same thing happened in senior and intermediate championship last year.

doratheexplorer - talking nonsense as usual Dora, if a championship match can be played mid week in September, there's no reason why they couldn't be played mid week during the summer months.
Only one team from Cavan can go through to Ulster, and from experience, any manager would be delighted to finish the County Championship early and have 4/5 weeks preparation for Ulster.

The County Board do the exact same for Cavan, no league/championship fixtures whilst Cavan prepare for the Championship.

Look teams don't even know who they are playing in the Quater finals and there certainly no chance of a 2 month break between county final and Ulster club. Be lucky if there a 2 week break! The whole things a farce. How many times were kingscourt beaten in this years championship? How many? And they still in it.. Play the championship home and away on a knockout basis with a 3rd game at a neutral venue if 1-1 after the home and away. Far more excitement playing at each other's grounds right up to quarter final stage where it's a toss up for home advantage instead of a 90% empty Breffni park. Then 2 semi finals the same day in Breffni with the final 2 weeks later. That's how you get the crowds and the local interest back . Who wants to travel 30 miles to Breffni knowing that if your teams beaten they will still be in it. Ppl not interested in that crap... Bring the games to the local pitches home and away on a knockout basis

In fairness Awwwwnow, Kingscourt played a preliminary round game, meaning they had extra games to get into the championship proper. The set up meant they could lose 2 games and still be in the championship. That's the problem when you have 17 teams in it. It does need to be sorted. If they get it to 16 teams, why can't they have the system of a few years ago: 4 groups of 4 with each team playing 3 group games. The top 2 of each group are into the quarters where a draw has been carried out where the top team in a group plays the second team in another group. This system means we can play the group games at any time, and we are not waiting to see who comes out of Round 2a or 2b, to see which loser will play that team in Round 3. Messed up system.... It also means we can start the championship earlier in the year, and then run the rest off quickly after Cavan are out.
