ACFL League

(Oldest Posts First)

Just looking at the league table, Arva seem to be on their to 3rd straight promotion, Drumalee could be in the basement division before the start of the championship and them playing senior championship. Cavan Gaels need to start picking up points too.
In Division 1B Redhills Denn Killygarry Killeshandra and CĂșchulainns are the bottom half of the league and are all senior championship teams.
Think it is time to cut the senior championship down to 12 teams,

Interesting league at all levels this year.lots of surprise results.Gaels need to start winning games.they are in free fall both on and off the field i hear.i do expect them to bounce back though.ballyhaise and cootehill have done well so far.drumalee look in danger of going down to Div3.would be a pity.

Story of the league has to be Arvagh and I think young Bouchier hasn't even played for them. Fair play.

And what has happened Drumalee????

Redhills aren't a Senior championship team this year..but the league means absolutely nothing once championship starts. Players are finally treating the league with the respect that the CB treats it. All games having to be played on Friday evening with no exceptions regardless of work commitments, etc just so the county team can have a get together at the weekend shows again how much they care about the league and club players

The ACFL comes second best to the County Team, the County Board do not care about anyone else - fixing matches for a Friday evening, and they expect players working in other Counties to be able to leave work early with some of them making long journeys home.

On another note, I see the Anglo Celt is at it again this week, asking people to lay off and stop being critical of the management, and then we have our GAA president doing the same thing in the papers today, and then another little snippit in the Celt about the financial woes.

Contrary to some peoples beliefs, Cavan Football, on & off the field is far from being in a healthy position, no success on the Senior stage in a long time, horrible type of football being played,

Deanmartin in this case i do agree with you on your point about the celt why does he have to make constant excuses for mistakes by selectors management players it was unbelievable actually laughable

ACFL games Friday night, I find it almost disturbing that those were the last league games until after the Championship.
It epitomises all that is wrong with Cavan Football and the County Board.

Dr Phil, would you not think that a small club like Arva heading for 3 promotions in a row not worthy of that?

Do enlighten me on what your story of the year is? Or are you busy watching American daytime TV?

Have to agree lads. Arva going well. Fair play to them. Ciaran Brady made them the team they are. Have to be strong contendors for Intermediate??

It's a bit of topic but the championship structures need to be looked at.
There is not 17 teams fit for senior championship. This needs to be reduced down to 12 teams max. Until this is sorted the club football standard will remain poor.
Arva going great guns and defo a success story.
Drumalee bottom of effectively D3, heading for the basement still senior champ...

DayTime American TV?? dunno what that looks like..

Story of the Year is the troubles that Cavan Gaels are having this year County Champs to what a struggling Senior team!

Also Arvagh are playing in the worst Division in Football packed with teams that are happy not to get promoted as they know there not fit for Division1

and its about time Arvagh have started moving up the ranks,There strong base of Youth gives them a solid base to build on they should have won that Junior Championship years ago before last year. They'll Feature in the Intermediate but i don't think they'd hold it up to the likes of Ballyhaise,Belturbet,Shercock

Swadlinbar also seem to be flying aswell this year and putting in some high scores in games!

Dr Phil - Not sure where youre getting your information from, but the Gaels are far from being in trouble - alot of players missing, but they'll be back come championship time, and it will be a good man that bets against them retaining their title - form is temporary, class is permanent as they say.

As for Division 1 A & B, standard of football has been terrible - and thats where the majority picks of our County team come from, but in its defence, I think the lack of regular ACFL games has not helped, last league games played 2 weeks ago, with the next ones scheduled for some time August, its a crying shame and a disgrace that the County Board has let this happen.
Arva are definetely the high flyers, but theyve been lucky with injuries and were able to field a full team most fixtures, whilst alot of other teams were missing players - Killygarry were missing 7 to 8 of their first team for most of their matches.

Am i right in thinking Cootehill bet Ramor in the ACFL League yesterday evening? Anyone at the game, thought this would have been a walkover for Ramor the way cootehill is going.

i think your wrong Eastcavan, ramor were missing mc enroe, shane cole and magee, cootehill short , colm smith , neil mc cluskey, d.sherlock, nulty, argue, d.sherlock, mc phillips, john carney
cootehill ran the show yersterday from about the 20minute on, first time this season cootehill had a good solid side out , season hampered with injuries

My brother was at the game. Enda Hession was best player for Cootehill.
James Mc Enroe was in the stand, don;t know why.
Ramor fluffed about 5 goal chances, said they won't pass the ball to each other. Kick outs went in favour of Cootehill, and they looked more cohesive. Ramor appear to have a lot of work to do.
