Are the county board contributing to young player burnout by running the minor league on a Saturday and acfl/breffni league games on a sunday.
I come from a small club and 6 of the players who played a full game on Saturday played another full game on sunday in the breffni league.
We have only 1 sub - and he's a minor too !!

The County Board have contributed to everything thats wrong with football in this County. The Breffni league is a complete waste of time. The issue with burn out isnt just about the amount of games, its the fact that the season is dragged out far too long, with many players starting to play in February and still going in November/December.
The need to get rid of the Breffni League, start the ACFL in March and games should be played on a regular basis, with the entire league/championship finished by mid September - giving players at least 4 months rest until the following March.

we had the same minors only they were in their first year of minor - just out of u16s which allowed them to play -sorry be thrown in at the deep end.
Over the past 3 years we have lost 11 players through retirement and immigration
We haven't been able to play junior b in the past number of years which means the young lads are getting a baptism of fire

Clubs are, first and foremost, responsible for there young players. Minors should be allowed play Minor League as a priority and if you can't field in the Adult League 24 hours later without them, don't play the game. As a previous poster said, if you're that reliant on Minors, why have you a team in the adult league in the first place. Clubs should not be flogging these young players then placing the blame elsewhere.

so do you suggest we stop entering adult football teams - we are trying to build a future here and if we stop entering adult teams what have these younger lads have to play for - play to minor and stop, which god forbid would happen we have no club.
Whats wrong with mid week matches for minors - play them on a wednesday night - there are enough pitches in the county with lights to run them off,including the 3g - i imagine the majority of the clubs in the county are relying on minors to field teams and the co board are more than aware of this. They dont care as long as the fixtures are run off. If we dont field a senior team then those over 18 will be gone next year
What do we do ? Its easy to say don't play them. If we dont field a team in the minors we deprive them of playing at their own level and loose the remainder of the minor team who are currently u16

Its a catch 22 situation band I know clubs have responsibility, but so too have the county board.

I am not blaming them totally, hence my questions - are they contributing to young player burn out

Midweek matches for minors - what about those doing leaving cert exams, or those away in college - do you suggest they stop studying or travel back from college midweek? How many pitches throughout the County have adequate lighting for nightime matches - there isnt many. If clubs want the 3g, the County Board demand payment for its use.
The responsibility for all club fixtures lies with the County Board, no-one else. At the moment, theres a Breffni League going on, and clubs have to use some of their minors because the County Senior & U 21 Teams are molly coddled and wrapped in cotton wool. Get rid of the Breffni League, start the ACFL early and let it run regularly with all players available for selection. The ACFL could be completed by May/June, get the championship run early and finished early Sept.

Not including the main pitch in Breffni, Kingscourt, Mullahoran, The 3G and Templeport are the sum total of pitches in Cavan that can take games after dark. 4 in total. Games will move to Tuesday nights (April 21st and 28th) when the evenings are bright enough but nothing can be done until then. And while i appreciate that Clubs need to keep Minors interested for there survival, that's what Minor League, Minor Championship and U21 is for. In the situation where Minor League and Adult League has to be played the same weekend, why not leave the Minors to play Minor. I'm not saying never play Minors in the Adult competitions because that's just unrealistic at best, but common sense should prevail when lads have 2 games the same weekend.

I'm guessing its probably Mountnugent. We played them last year and they had 5 players on their senior team who were just out of u16's.
Their total squad last year was about 18 or 19 players
