Laois V Cavan

What's the thoughts on Saturday night in Portlaoise?
We have a great opportunity to get two points. I was surprised Laois lost to Westmeath and they have their midfielder Brendan Quigley suspended as well. Any thoughts?

Probably a good time to play Laois. I think Brendan Quigley is injured. Bad result for them against Westmeath. Think there might be a bit of descent in the camp. perhaps another draw for us might not be a bad result.

We should beat Laois as they are no great shakes at the moment and Quigley will be a huge loss to them... They will be sore after the Westmeath game which they seemed to kick away... They will be in big danger of the drop if they loose this game so will be all out to get the points...still a very winnable game for Cavan imo.....

Folks, all away games in Division 2 are difficult. Expect Laois to be up for the battle on Saturday. It's a game we can win nothing more nothing less.

preview report from indo. 23 march 2003
Kingspan Breffni Park M Hughes (Tyrone) Team News Laois: Mick O'Dwyer's desire for consistency is apparent in his team selection with only one change from the team that defeated Sligo. Full forward Hughie Emerson loses out to the returning Colm Parkinson who is listed at wing forward. Chris Conway will wear the number 14 jersey. Cavan: A rash of injuries and unavailabilities have left team selection to the last minute. Finbarr O'Reilly (knee injury), Colm Hannon and Paul Brady (exam commitments) were ruled out earlier in the week. Doubts lingered about the fitness of Jason Reilly, Mickey Graham, Gerald Pierson and Michael Hannon. Michael Brides has only recently resumed training after a broken leg. James Doonan is another long term absentee. Last League Meeting Laois 0-10; Cavan 2-13 October 29 2000 The previous April, Laois and Cavan had raised expectations by qualifying for the division 2 semi-finals, only for both to be beaten - by Louth and Offaly respectively - in games that proved sadly prophetic for their championship hopes. Thus, a few months later, this meeting in rain drenched O'Moore park was a suitably low key affair. Cavan generally held the whip hand all through, leading by three points at half time. Laois appeared to be rallying early in the second period until Jason Reilly crashed the ball to the net to end the game as a contest. The full forward then repeated the process in the final minute to put the icing on the cake. Form Guide Cavan: 2nd, 8 pts. Beat Kildare, Meath, lost to Fermanagh, beat Mayo, Down. Average scores for/against 1-14/0-12. Leading scorers: Dermot McCabe 0-24; Mickey Graham 2-5, Jason Reilly 2-3, Larry Reilly 1-5. Laois: 1st 9 pts. Beat Meath, Fermanagh, Mayo, drew Down, beat Sligo. Average scores for/against 0-13/0-10 Leading scorers: Damien Delaney 1-26; Ian Fitzgerald 0-11, Mick Lawlor 0-8, Brian McDonald 0-5. Verdict The key to Cavan's league march to date has been their ability to find the net at least once in every game. That ability is, however, offset by a tendency to leak a few goals themselves, but that failing merely makes the northerners all the more entertaining to watch. Laois probably have the greater reputation for natural forwards - due to memories of their minor successes in the late 1990s - but defensively they've run a much tighter ship under O'Dwyer this spring. Greater consistency, and fewer injuries, may be decisive in shaping a Laois victory. Away win

So S Goldrick, the person that told us on previous posts that Cavan Football has been bad over last decade and not to be talking about the past has now referred back to a game played in 2003.

But it certainly reads to excellent reading, scored a goal in nearly every game, we attacked, we were entertaining to watch, and secured a point and held our own against one of the best teams in the Country at the time under the great Micko.....

Sadly, the attacking football is now gone, we struggle to average points never mind goals, and the only entertainment is the National Anthem before the match, the cup of tea and a bar at half time, and the numerous handling errors and poor passes in almost every match!

And someone recently said on this forum that most teams fear playing us!!!

Just a little add on to the last meeting between the teams, we lost our final round league game against Sligo and the wheels fairly came off after that, lost to Antrim and Fermanagh in the Championship. Matty Kerrigan packed it in after that.

Sssshhh. It was a golden era and we were the masters of attacking football.

I read the thread on Mackey but was wondering was there any word on James McEnroe or Michael Argue?

I think Argue is been minded for the U-21s which is a load of bull imo as the GAA will surley cut this compitition from their overloaded calander before too long... There are too many players involved with both pannells for it to be worthwhile...it was ok in the 70/80s when the average age of senior county playets was prob mid-20 s or older...! What do others think.....?

Argue must be injured as he hasnt played for UUJ since the game against Monaghan.

First time on this forum. I swore I never would. I'm horrified with some of the content on this site. The abuse some players get only in Cavan is despicable. Sean 66 you claim to be an expert. Who was Cavan top scorer in the championship when Terry took over the cavan reigns. Think you'll find that Jack s name was up there. He was one of our better players against Down and Monaghan. Came off against fermanagh injured and came on against Tyrone with the same injury he up picked up against Fermanagh. Give him a break. Also Argue is still u 21 the rules are the there. He'll be back after u21 duty. James mc if fit to play and will be back at weekend . Don't know why he didn't come on last Sunday when a few of our backs were struggling especially in the half back line . He also delivers good quick ball to the forwards . Think management need to get better along line . They need to make changes quicker .

you say that argue is being minded for the under 21's which in your opinion is a load of bull, also that there are too many players involved in both panels.
so which is it?
is it that Argue should be used in Both Panels, or is it that he shouldn't ???
you have argued boths side of this with yourself?

Expert 2015.... I dont recall Jack scoreing a whole lot on the senior team ..I may be wrong.. I wonder who was it against... On another note any Manager who uses an injured player as you claim has serious questions to answer...look what happened to Mackey....?

Sean66 you make little sense.are you saying the good u21lads if they're good enough they should play senior only.surely they should play for their age group firstly-we have enough players without flogging the 21s as well
