Why are players not playing?

(Oldest Posts First)

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on why two of Cavan's biggest players are not playing this year? Both Eugene Keating and David Givney have chosen not to play, and with Cavan's small choice of players, the team cannot afford to lose players like that. I know work was mentioned, but with Cavan with a great chance this year to get to an Ulster Final, you have to wonder why they have opted out? Is it because last year was such a mess? Is because they can't see the team progressing under this management, and with these tactics? Something must be up. Along with the TOP scorer in Cavan Seanie not being picked, and another forward Kevin Tierney not being picked, there is something wrong. It must be said that Cavan must improve in the forward line, and get the ball in faster. It must change, or this year will be another mess! Any thoughts?

Players are fed up with the tatics Hyland and co are using.... If he continues with this I think more players will pull out and the numbers going to games will fall... No player could enjoy playing to this system and I know for sure nobody likes watching it... Lets hope for a change befofe its too late...!

Yes, I'd have to echo the sentiments of the first post. It appears there is nothing but doom and gloom surrounding the senior panel these days, on the field nothing much has changed it appears, and off the field key players are walking away.

However, we are not the only ones suffering from a haemorrhage of players. The demands of the game nowadays are totally unsustainable for amateur players. Sad state of affairs when the only choice the GAA has is to either pay the players or rigorously enforce training bans to ensure player wellbeing. It's a farcical situation if lads can't play for their county because the demands are too much.

Back to ourselves, I mean lets face it, we're not exactly blessed with physicality are we, and consider we've lost our captain, our first/second choice midfielder and our best forward in an already toothless attack, well we are facing one hell of a bleak 2015. And before the know it alls bark at me for being negative, nobody is deliberately negative, personally I just can't see anything to be excited about for 2015.

It's hard to know what the precise reason for the players leaving is, could well be work commitments, or could well be the direction the management has taken the team, but one things for sure, the players would hardly publicly admit the reason they walked was due to bad tactics. Doesn't matter anyway.

it's what you do with the players you have that matters. Look at Kerry last year after retirements and the loss off cooper, they didn't moan and groan but got on with it. Look at Southampton in the PL, lost big chunk off of their team and are now flying high

There a big difference in the quality of the Kerry and Southampton management compared to our jokers!

Will you cop yourself on. Terry Hyland brough a team who had won 3 competitive matches in eight years to the last eight of the All Ireland two years ago. Last year he achieved promotion to Division 2. NO matter what is said, he has been wonderful for Cavan football.

As it's an amateur sport they don't have to play if they don't want too. Players have to make themselves available for county football you cannot tell them they have to play so its the players choice it's that simple.
