Where to from here.
Change of management ?
Change the way we play the game?
Change the team?
This is the most embarrassing time for Cavan football since Tyrone hammered us by 26 points.
Four ulster under 21 titles and not one outstanding forward to show for it.
Clarke, McVeety or a fit Mackey or Dunne would not have made a shred of difference last night.
GUTTED to say the least, expected a lot more but saw the writing on the wall against a poor Westmeath team.
Future is definetly " BLUE" , singing the blues.
Time to go away and have a major RETHINK !!!!!!
Still a Cavan fan and have been for 45 years.
Lads need a rest now, start a fresh next year.
We have a saying in Cavan. " there's always next year", but it never seems to comes around.

Mackey huge loss and management should have to be questioned for the way they mismanaged his injury alone. Started the year injured yet played in mckenna cup and played in unimportant frendlies.

Change of management?

Yes I would say so. Have backed Terry to the hilt since he took over and would say that if he stepped down now his tenure as a whole would have to be looked on as a good one. But things need freshening up and now seems the time to do that.

Change of system?

Not an overhaul, our defence is still impressive generally speaking. But changes are needed. Quicker delivery to a full forward line who A) can win and hold ball, B) can turn and beat a man and take a score, and C) have players running off them to take a quick lay-off
If I was to sum up the problem facing us it is this;
We have figured out how to shut out an opponent. But opponents are coming up with solutions to breaching that system quicker than we are when it is employed against us.

Change of team?

Again, not an overhaul. There are 3 or 4 players who I would drop but will not name on here. And there are a number of younger players who should see game time in McKenna Cup and League next year such as Paul O'Connor, Liam Buchanan, Conor Moynagh.

Cavan football is not in any kind of crisis and our recent underage success is testament to that, but our senior team needs to be improving steadily year on year to maintain momentum. I fear that if we have a repeat of this championship campaign in 2015 then all the good work may be stopped dead in its tracks. Let's hope not.

Needed immediately. But won't happen. The problem is who do you get to come in? Tony McEntee I think would be ideal. Terry Hyland has achieved a lot for Cavan football, and deserves a lot of credit. BUT, now is the time to go, because it is obvious that he has brought us as far as he can, and we have already begun our backward decline. Last year we beat Armagh, this year they thrashed us. Contrast Cavan's fortunes to those of Roscommon recently. Rossies got hammered by Mayo last year. This year there was a kick of a ball between them. Progress. Meanwhile, Cavan beat Armagh in 2013 and lose poorly to them in 2014. Thats a decline.

Change the way we play the game?: Obvious. Who dreamed up this dreadful style? But it wont change under current manager. No plan B.

Change the team?: No, players are not to blame.

All of the above is true, agree 100%. Look desagov, Id safely say if Colm Cooper or Bernard Brogan were in this Cavan team we still wouldn't score. It's the system, not the players.

Can't go back to square one until we're relegated from Division 2 first - calm down people! Colm Cooper or Bernard Brogan wouldn't make a difference to us???????? Christ above , I've heard it all now!

To say we don't let the ball in is not entirely accurate . We did it on a number of occasions against the Ross and it came straight back out . Yes some of the delivery was dire but so was our movement inside . No point calling for the ball behind your man . At one point our full forward was 2 yards behind the full back on the edge of the square pointing at the sky while our midfielder had the ball on the half way line - that is not an exaggeration by the way . Yes forwards need support if/when they get the ball but we had too many passengers on Saturday with a lot of players completely out of their depth (whether they can improve time will tell) . Not being able to win a single kick out all game is not down to the system either . To say better calibre players wouldn't improve us is just daft . And yes , the players we were missing were a huge loss!

There was plenty of times when the ball was played in to Keating who was ahead of his man but his man rounded him and got to it first.

Don't know if you're agreeing or disagreeing with me Cavan Slasher with that statement (maybe you could elaborate) . I did notice that in the game alright and it's kind of what I was getting at . To say we flat out don't let the ball in is wrong and part of the reason we hold on to it too much is we don't have players to win the ball inside . To be fair to Keating he was one of the players who I would say tried very hard and I felt sorry for him . He was a dejected looking figure in the second half . It's not his game to get out in front and turn a man and run at goal . When he gets it if the shot is not on he needs support . We need to change tactics but we have to look at our personnel as well . Our inside forwards are not all they're being talked up to be . We have no one who runs at a defender . It's not a simple fix of letting the ball in and everyone rushing up in support . We need people in there who can mix it up .
