I was thinking this table was a tough one but now I don't think so. I expect it all depends now on what way this manager decides to play. Does he set out his own stall does he play the way they have been playing they have been playing for the last 6 or 7 games or try the Tyrone. I hope to god he plays a new system that we the supporters can enjoy an open game using the width of the park and play the type of game supporters can enjoy and not puke crap. I will try this again ?? Not big crowed pullers but when you look at the teams that are in division 2 you kind of get a feeling that Cavan could get back to Division 1. I had to post it in posts?? Those of you that have been to the park this year take a good long hard look at your county pitch you will see "Now read what I am posting the pitch is 84.5 meters wide I could make it wider but there would be an imbalance because the stand side near the large gate heading out there is an angle which prevents me. I could go maybe add "a half meter wider each side which would give us 85.5 meters but why bother. Over the next two week look at the middle of your county ground from goal to goal you will see a very discolored and damaged pitch why is that you ask well it's because of the style of game thats been embedded into players and they don't know how to use the width of the pitch???? so 25 meters to be honest in from both sides are as you will see almost in pristine condition thats 50 meters I wonder why and why we are afraid to play the width of the pitch. We need a manager who is willing to play open football use the park the full park to play football and if this happens maybe for a change to use the words a former international soccor player Ruud Gullit used these words lets play sexy football maybe it's time we the supporters were given a bit of respect and give us something to talk about for a few day's after the match and maybe up to the next match. Open football will not kill us if we understand it. This is only my opinion of course but I am sure there are those out there that agree with me. I would love the opportunity of getting 20 odd players for a month and see how my type of game would stand up to what players have been thought over the last ten years. In fairness to Nicholas Walsh I have to give him some credit for he played open games when coaching but we seem to have lost our way because we watch to many other county teams play their type of game and we flipping hell try to stifle their game when we should have counties having to make adjustments to cater for our style of game. Thankfully due to illness sad to say really I missed all the simi and county finals for I am told I would have been disgusted by what was presented to the supporters. I will not get to see the three Ulster matches either because of my health but please god I might have a chance of maybe seeing them in the next round. I know Cavan gaels have the ability to play open football they have been for years but have fallen into this new so called game. I would hope they might try a more open game time will tell. Use the width of the park for christ sake you will be amazed by the amount of space you will have to display your ability and football skills. Sorry for going on rant over. Typical Division 2 programme. All games winnable but nothing easy. Hard to call it without seeing the panel but if we continue from where we left off I think promotion is beyond us. Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 14/10/2017 10:50:02 2055211 Link 0 |

I expect we will take points from Louth Meath Tipperary I would expect them to the points from Down as well now my home county are so unpredictable it's a game I find it hard to call I would fancy them to take points from Clare also. Roscommon has always been hard to call. These are only if new blood is played and tactics are changed for if it's the same old story sadly as much as it sticks in my craw we will be propping up the table. Please god things will change for 2018. I don't like the McKenna cup but this time we have to give it a shot with the majority new blood and a few experience to guide them. The style of play was his and was not what was promised. Had he been a huge success the glory would have been his so I don't accept passing the buck on his failures. For a start in 2016 we were much more direct although we did have Givney playing well. Our kick out strategy in 2016 was much more confident and varied and the launch pad for many quick attacks. We had a more settled team. Again this is down to team selection and management. We never on any occasion ran out of substitutions. The humiliating act of subbing subs is not something I ever witnessed before and usually only the actions of a bad underage coach. Subbing players after a mistake without a chance of making amends unfortunately seemed to be a theme last year too. Again this cannot be put down to a roll over from previous years. Some of his post match interviews were a bit daft as well and hardly gave off the aura of a man with the answers. While players at that level should have a thick skin I can see a lot of players getting sick of these antics very quickly. It goes without saying that we wish him well and hope he's a success but the grace period is over. Anything less than 6/7 points wouldn't be acceptable from previous management so this is the minimum we should be getting. Hardtimes (Cavan) - Posts: 1056 - 14/10/2017 12:24:31 2055226 Link 0 |
Hardtimes Next year is a make or break one for the manager. he failed in year one to impose the style of play that he promised, however, the panel that he will select for 2018 will be his and he absolutely deserves an opportunity to put his stamp on the team as he was appointed too late in 2015 and as a consequence ran with the existing panel and style of play that was in situ. I wish him well in 2018. kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts:451 - 14/10/2017 11:23:35 2055216 kildare blue I know a typo error but some will think he has been around a long time. He arrived November 2016 and off course you are right this is his year no finger can be pointed at the former managers it's all his from here on in. Looking at that list of games let's call a spade a spade & say that for a team that played division 1 football in 2017 out 4 home games and the away game against Clare have to be victories. After that we should be there or thereabouts for promotion. Anyone talking about relegation needs there head examined. Big year for Mattie definitely. No more excuses, impulse substitutions & childish interviews please. Let's deliver on what he promised Day 1 bond (Longford) - Posts: 174 - 14/10/2017 17:02:50 2055259 Link 1 |

Sean Thanks the date check, it was of course late 2016 when Mattie was appointed. kildare blue (Cavan) - Posts:452 - 15/10/2017 08:51:57 2055312 Post Reply Link 0 0 No problem the only reason I mentioned it is that it would let those that don't have a clue think when he came that he should be doing better at this stage but this time next year we will defo be able to have our say for sure let's hope it's positive. Please god now new broom clean sweep. The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4601 - 15/10/2017 10:22:00 2055323 Link 0 |

Its only October and the fools are out in force already, happens every year, Cavan will do this, Cavan will do that. Have you learned nothing over the years. Tipperary & Clare will have no fear of Cavan, in fact, both of them will see Cavan as very winnable matches. cavanblueman (Cavan) - Posts: 636 - 17/10/2017 17:33:56 2055814 Link 0 |
He's not the best forward in the county, he definitely was one time, but not now, .

With the exception of the Gaels, the Senior Championship was absolutely terrible, you wouldn't pick any County Footballer from any team bar the Gaels." Wouldn't agree with anything you said. SJ could not get playing with Cavan this year so how is he the best forward? The Gaels are the best team by a mile and have 20 very good footballers but they don't have a footballer that would EXCEL at county level. They just have a great balanced team. You could call any amount of them in because at the minute a lot of lads don't want to play for Cavan so they are scraping the barrel to make up a panel. Unfortunately we haven't the quality at the minute and it's as simple as that in terms of players or management team. theDagger1986 (Cavan) - Posts: 181 - 17/10/2017 22:46:27 2055894 Link 0 |
