J J Reilly. RIP

(Oldest Posts First)

I am not a Cavan Gaels club man, but I'm truly saddened by the news of passing of JJ Reilly. He was a true gent, a great GAA man and will be sorely missed not only by his family and club but by all of Cavan and beyond . Rip JJ #ashstreet5

A gentleman and a passionate GAA man. Had him as a teacher in St.Pats for a few years. RIP.

I am not a Cavan Gaels fan either but JJ and I had some great chats over the last 40 odd years. He was a true gael an honest man a genuine supporter and did so much for the development of underage football in this county, there was a bit of devilment in him as well those that have stood near him on the side line or listened to him in the dressing room will know what I am talking about.
The last chat I had with him was about the county final and he had loads to say about who he thought would win and why. Year after year in all weathers he brought the school finals to the park and it was strange not seeing him on the 3G yesterday for two simi finals.
If there is another resting place JJ as a devoted Catholic I bet you are all ready organising the Choire.
Safe journey my friend I will miss the bit of banter.

Fitting that one of Cavan's largest removal gatherings in years should be for JJ. He was a real GAA man and had a great sense of humour. Ar dheis De go raibh a n'ainm dilis.

Yes I agree it had to be the largest removal ever recorded in Cavan I can only imagine how many are at the Cathedral this morning for his last journey, The Gaels and the Cavan people have done themselves proud united in one to bid him farewell.

Lads it's great to see such lovely things said about j.j. Reilly. He was an incredible one of a kind person. J.j has left a legacy behind him he has developed some fantastic footballers in this county that went on to play for their county, schools and clubs at the highest level. I cannot speak highly enough of this amazing human being. He will be such an incredible loss to his family, friends, club mates and fellow club friends around Cavan and further afield. As father Gerry Kieran's said you would not see state funerals as big as his was and it was fitting the amazing send of this great man got nothing less than he deserved. We will always remember this great man j.j. and he will be an irreplaceable figure in all of our lives terry coyle will surely be dull place without his presence rip j.j

Couldn't believe it myself when I heard the news.. He was in Pats where he taught me some football with a bit of Latin thrown in.. Always someone you would like to run into at a match or around town, because there was always good debate and a bit of banter too..

Awful sad news

Top class guy was JJ as are all the Reilly bros. He taught me in St Pats back in the day. Gave his life to the GAA and the Gaels. They should probably call their new building after him in his honour. Irreplaceable from a club point of view. RIP.
