The County management team know the talent that is within the county...they just wont let them kick a ball foreward or shoot for a score... !!! I dont see how divisonal teams would change that..???

I do not concur with your views that the County management know what talent is around.
I for one can point to the fact that I discovered David and I feel proud of it.
I feel if we had divisional teams in the winter months and let us have competition with the County and let the fellows that want to get on the panel be seen from Junior footballers to the seniors

You talk some poo Tomsmith I hope Terry hyland is looking at your post up there and Laughing!!

It's idiotic to think that Terry hyland doesn't know of all the talent in the county playing Senior football for there Clubs

It's in the job description to know and research every player in the county, Why else would there be trial games and New members to the panel at the beginning of every year to test the talent found to see if there up to it and see if they like what they see.

And all your Talking up of the Gaels County Champs only 1 of there players have played for the county so far this year (Niall Murray) I wouldnt even count that 10mins Dunne gave against UUJ last weekend...

Please don't put a label on anyone in life , and particularly Tomsmith as Mrs Tomsmith ie the great lady will not be best pleased and anyway it in no way progresses discussion.
But over to you Mr 66 I can say we have a big County in Cavan from White gate cross to Glan and from Gowna over to Kingscourt and a lot of fellows in between pushing for "ie my man on the panel" from all arts and parts. I feel that Divisional teams would provide a great viewing forum for the management to view at first hand a fellows worth. I feel and I have seen a lot of football that the best environment for a fellow to excel is in a game. We have all seen fellows who would kill fellows in training and in a game these same fellows hide.
So I have outlined several positive reasons for Divisional teams can anyone give me one good reason not to have them?

There is some merit in what Tom is proposing but there are many flaws also.
Ok, so we form for example, 10 divisional teams made up from 4 clubs each and play off a very competitive league or championship.
1. Who decides who gets played - can see a lot of arguments there.
2. When do they play ? Already the club fixtures is a shambles without adding in more games
3. Assuming they best players will be on these teams, so more games for the county lads and aspiring county lads
4. Training; when do they train. Clubs will dictate they attend their own training so an extra session or sessions will need to be added so adding to the burn out factor
5. What will it achieve ? We have a good idea of the talent pool out there and those of interest or interested are in the pool of players being trialled and played.
6. We have talented players, but its not the players that are the problem. They are working,committing and training their asses off, but not being allowed to express themselves. Its the system thats at fault but its a system thats being played by the vast majority of counties but we seem to have taken it to a new level of boring.
I've heard comments that players have seen opportunities but can't risk making a pass that doesn't fit into the system. Its the system, not the players and no amount of divisional teams will change that.

Two neighbouring Offaly GAA clubs are in talks about amalgamating.

Dwindling player numbers is forcing Killeigh and fellow parishioners Killurin to look into the possibility of joining forces. Former Offaly county board chairman Pat Teehan chaired a meeting between the two clubs on Tuesday night and the matter is expected to top the agenda at the Killeigh AGM, which has been rearranged for tomorrow night.

Killeigh were previously joined with Raheen - the reigning Offaly intermediate football champions - in the late 1980s and 1990s.

The amalgamation can only happen if 75 per cent of both club's membership vote in favour of it. It will be the second merger in Offaly in two years if it happens, with Ballyskenagh and Killavilla having formed one club in March 2013.

Also want a breakdown of Season ticket holders per County in Ulster.

And teams with highest attendance figures in Ulster in 2014.

Tomsmith talks alot of sense, and I fully agree that there is alot more talent out there than we think. There was alot of criticism about the goalkeeper recently, surely there's better goalkeepers in the County?
Dr Phil, no doubt is a close friend of Terry Hyland - please enlighten us and tell when and where these trial games took place, because from what Ive hear,
In relation to another post - how many player from the two County finalists are on the panel, how many players are on the panel from Senior teams within the County?
And more importantly, how can Terry Hyland & his selectors see whats out there when theres no regular fixtures. The league and championship schedule is a farce, the Breffni league, a total waste of time because most clubs dont take it seriously enough. The ACFL should be played every week, except when Cavan have a league fixture, and the championship should be run off over a number of weeks. Far too many breaks between games, so how can players be judged!
