Ulster Championship Future

(Oldest Posts First)

I've just read Mattie's comments on the Ulster championship as it stands.
Everyone knows that Ulster is the most competitive of all the provincial championships and changes need to be made.
A champions league format leaves the provincial titles obsolete, but is there any other choice.
Any other suggestions?

Look it's a cop out provincial titles gives you bragging rights if you are not good enough to compete in them well get out of the fire. I know the way things pan out there are only 9 counties in Ulster well there are only six in Munster and Kerry ruled the roost and probably still do so get used to it. If you are not good enough you are either doing something wrong or the players are not interested or just not good enough it's that simple. However my finger will point only in one direction. There are plenty clubs in Cavan and not being able to bring in the quality is a reflection on the CCB and the way things are allowed to be run.
Get out there and show your County what you are worth and if not good enough stop making excuses and get out of the fire and step aside it's that simple.

Ditch the Mc Kenna cup. If you want to have the provincial championship, play it before the league, as apart from bragging rights and a chance to win something if you're not good enough for the big one, there is no real merit in it.

Look at the reality;

Lenister ; Dublin

Munster; Kerry and on occasions , Cork

Connaught; Mayo or Galway

Ulster; Donegal, Tyrone, Monaghan

The all Ireland championship should be split into two tiers, 16 in each. 4 divisions of 4, play 3 games, top team in each into semi. Could be all played over 6 weeks from start of may until mid july leaving ample time for the clubs to finish their games in reasonable weather !!!
