Mayo's Andy Moran celebrates against Kerry

Munster champions Kerry and Connacht heavyweights Mayo did battle at Croke Park today for a place in this year's All-Ireland SFC final.

The Kingdom had looked their usual imperial selves as they swatted off Clare, Cork and Galway to reach the last four, while their opponents - who also faced all three of those teams - had taken the scenic route since losing their provincial semi-final to the Tribesmen.

Stephen Rochford's men needed extra time to get the better of both Derry and the Rebels in the Qualifiers, edging out the Banner County in between. They required two bites at the cherry to see off Connacht champions Roscommon but finally produced their best form in the replay 13 days ago.

Kerry went into today's game as favourites but Mayo had rediscovered their mojo at just the right time?

The Kingdom also had a vested interest in the curtain-raiser: they clashed with surprise packets Cavan at the penultimate stage of the 2017 All-Ireland minor football championship.
