The All-Ireland senior football championship quarter-finals are upon us again and here we look at some of the past results at the last eight stage which we never saw coming.

Fermanagh 0-12 Armagh 0-11, August 7, 2004

After losing to then All-Ireland champions Tyrone in the first round, Charlie Mulgrew's Fermanagh side mounted a brave run in the qualifiers that brought the Erne County to Croke Park for the first time ever in the championship.

It was Tom Brewster's sensational point in the fourth minute of injury-time which sealed a historic victory against the heavily favoured Orchard men. It was a day Fermanagh fans would never forget and the team would give another proud account of themselves at HQ in the semi-final, earning a with Mayo before losing out in the replay.

Meath 1-13 Tyrone 2-08, August 4, 2007

Ulster champions Tyrone looked like launching another All-Ireland bid in 2007 and travelled to Croke Park as hot favourites when they a Meath side which had scrapped narrow wins over Fermanagh and Galway to reach the last eight.

The underdogs settled in with a good start against Mickey Harte's men and a flicked goal from Royals legend Graham Geraghty in the 45th minute proved crucial as the 2003 and 2005 All-Ireland champions were shown the exit door.

Wexford 1-14 Armagh 0-12, August 9, 2008

Armagh fans will not want to remember this one either, as a quarter-final with Wexford looked to provide them with a perfect opportunity to meet Tyrone in the last four and avenge the loss to their old rivals on the same stage from five years previous.

Instead Jason Ryan's Wexford delivered the performance of their season at headquarters, with the simply sensational Mattie Forde hitting 1-5 to advance the Slayneysiders into their first All-Ireland semi-final in 63 long years.

Kerry 1-24 Dublin 1-7, August 3, 2009

After having lost a Munster semi-final replay comprehensively to Cork, Kerry were far from convincing in their qualifier run with Sligo running them to within a point down in Tralee in round three.

Leinster champions Dublin returned to Croker hotly fancied to dispatch the Kingdom, but once Colm Cooper's goal hit the net 36 seconds in there was only going to be one winner. In the end, the fired-up Munster men ran riot on the August Bank Holiday before going on to collect another All-Ireland crown.

Down 1-16 Kerry 1-10, July 30, 2010

This one was well and truly right out of left field as beaten Ulster semi-finalists Down reduced the defending All-Ireland champions to only three different scorers over the 70 minutes at Croke Park.

Mark Poland's goal inside the first minute set the tone for an upset from the Mourne men, who had 1-3 posted before the Kingdom got their first score of the afternoon. It was that six-point gap that proved the difference come the final whistle.

Tipperary 3-13 Galway 1-10, July 31, 2016

After breaking Mayo's five-year dominance in Connacht, Kevin Walsh's Galway side looked set to book their county's first victory at Croke Park in the football championship since winning it all back in 2001.

Tipperary had other ideas though as goals from Conor Sweeney (2) and Michael Quinlivan helped seal the Premier County's berth in an All-Ireland SFC semi-final for the first time since 1935.
