CLUB NOTES

Cornafean 1 - 16   Lavey 3 - 5

Well done to the Cornafean lads who kept up their recent good run in the Division 2 ACFL with a deserved victory over Lavey played in Lavey on Friday night last.  It didn't look particularly good for the Reds in the early exchanges as Lavey threatened to steam rolll their visitors into submission but in fairness after a poor first 15 minutes Cornafean settled and worked their way back into the game.  Lavey flew out of the blocks with an early goal and a point with Barry doyle pointing for the Reds but a converted penalty from the homestead after 15 minutes left six between the sides.  Again the Reds responded with a brilliant major from Liam Duignan after a lovely hand passing move up the field but unbelievably and disappointingly from the Reds back's point of view, Lavey hit back with their 3rd goal of the evening.  Cornafean played their best football of the first half in the last 10 minutes with points from Aodhagan Smith, Wayne Johnson, Barry Doyle and two from Andrew Smith restoring confidence and setting the team up nicely for the second half.  The fact the Reds scored 10 points in the second period to Lavey's 4 tells it's own story with the Reds rediscovering their mojo and completely dominating proceedings.  Lavey did win some good possession around the middle but were wasteful up front.  As confidence grew points came from the Doyle brothers, Aodhagan Smith, Mark and Wayne Johnson but a point on the run from Liam Duignan from all of 50 yards out was a real beauty and score of the match.  The Reds ran out comfortable 5 point winners and once again this victory maintains momentum and helps build belief and confidence.  Again it was another battling display from the 15 lads on the park but Mark Johnson and Dan Wharton were immense in the back line, Andrew and Jack Wharton worked ever so hard up and down the field and Wayne Johnson and Liam Duignan were the pick of the forwards.

Cornafean team.. Rory Geoghegan, Jason Miney, Dan Wharton, Shane Doyle, Mark Johnson, Conor Sheridan, Ciaran Duignan, Andrew Smith, Jack Wharton, Aodghan Smith, Andrew Wharton, Cormic Geoghegan, Wayne Johnson, Barry Doyle, Liam Duignan, Sub Niall Sheridan.

All Ireland Qualifers..Best of luck to the Cavan Senior lads who will take on Offaly in the all Ireland Qualifers in Tullamore on Sunday evening.

Cavan Ladies..Hard luck to Amy and the Cavan ladies wholost out to a strong Monaghan team in the Ulster Championship played in Gallbally Tyrone on Saturday evening last.  The ladies will now go into the qualifiers due to be played in the coming weeks.
