Junior Championship Final
Ballinagh completed a Junior double on Sunday last edging out neighbours Denn in a thrilling encounter by a single point on a score of 1-17 to 3-10. Denn started the game with a goal but a brilliant point from Ciaran Brady and a forced own goal from Denn after great work by Daryl Gaynor brought Ballinagh straight back into the game. Another Brady point and a two converted Eamon McEvoy frees left Ballinagh 4 points to the good after less than ten minutes. However a great run from the Denn midfielder Stephen McPartland resulted in him burying the ball past Killian Finnegan in the Ballinagh goal. A quick fire point from Denn levelled before Ballinagh lost influential midfielder McEvoy to a black card. While down to 14 men Denn then set out on an attack and took the lead for the second time in the game scoring a fine point and then adding another to leave the score 2-3 to 1-4 after 20 minutes. Declan Beard kicked a much needed free for the Ballinagh before repeating the feat on the stroke of halftime to leave the sides level on 1-6 to 2-3 at the break. The second half started with a bang with Gavin Smith winning the throw up and interchanging beautifully with Brady before captain Michael Higgins put Ballinagh into the lead with a fine point. Substitute Gus Bogue then wandered forward from full back on two separate occasion to kick two great scores with a fantastic Denn point sandwiched in between. Scores were then exchange between Denn and Ballinagh with three other substitutes Shane Finnegan (2), Ronan O'Reilly (2) and Gavin Smith pointing to extend Ballinaghs lead to 4 points with 10 minutes left. However Denn struck back with a much needed goal from Mousey Kiernan and the minimum was between the sides again. Enda Brady became the fifth substitute to get on the score sheet with a lovely left footed point to give Ballinagh a two point cushion. Beard then scored an inspirational score which was started and worked brilliantly up the pitch by Killian Finnegan, Aaron Reilly and then Enda Brady. With the game approaching the dying stages Denn got two scores to leave point between the sides with normal time up. Ballinagh won possession from an excellent Finnegan kick out and maintained it for over a minute before Cashel Cross' finest, Gus Bogue, sent over an insurance point to rapturous applause from the Nagh supporters. Denn did get one final attack however they only managed a point and referee Chris McCaffrey blew time on the proceedings and Ballinagh were Junior C Championship winners to add to their earlier Junior C League success. St. Stephen's Day BUSFAS Championships and Cycle in aid of SOSAD
After the success of last year's Cycle and Five-A-Side soccer tournament, the Ballinagh Under 75 Five A Side Parish Association (BUSFASPA for short) are delighted to run the same events this year in accordance with Ballinagh Cycle Club. The BUSFAS Championship is an 8 team tournament with group stages, semi-finals and a final with medals and a trophy for the winners as well as a MVP and Donkey of the tournament trophy. With the 8 teams already registered with varying captains from all around the local area this is sure to be a great way to run off the Christmas dinner from the day before. As well as the BUSFAS Championships, it is intended to run the inaugural BUSFASL (Ladies version) Championship in cooperation with the Camogie Club as well on the day. Stay tuned to Facebook for updates on the events. If playing or watching the BUSFAS Championships isn't for you then Ballinagh Cycle Club will host a 30KM cycle on the same day at a cost of just €10. It is sure to be a fun and active day in the community and we encourage everybody to come along and support the events. All proceeds on the day will go to SOSAD.
All Ireland Masters Final
On Saturday afternoon last Ballinagh hosted the prestigious All Ireland Masters final between Cavan and Mayo. The game was a tense affair going the whole way into extra time in which Mayo prevailed on a score line of 1-12 to 1-9. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and supporters who helped out on the day, be it serving soup, parking cars, setting up scaffolding, stewarding gates, getting the dressing rooms prepared, operating the scoreboard (magnificently) and all the other bits and bobs that took place. It goes to show what the club can do when we all pull together.
Outing Going Committee
At last Saturday evening AGM the 2016 committee term came to an end. Chairman Hugh McInerney, Vice Chair Adrian Maguire, Secretary Marian McInerney, Assistant Secretary Gerry O'Reilly and Joint Treasurers Andy Cronin and Fidelma Seymour all stepped aside from their position. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Hugh, Adrian, Marian, Gerry, Andy and Fidelma for all the fantastic work they done throughout the year. Without them in the background there would be no club and we are extremely grateful for what they do.
Lotto Results
The numbers drawn for the week ending 28/11/16 were 2-13-16-22, there was no jackpot winner. The winners of €25 were; Joey Dunne Marian Row, Pauric Sheridan Bailieboro, S.Smith New Houses Kilnaleck, Padraig McCormack Kilnaleck. The losing ticket drawn this week to be entered into the draw for a weekend away at the end of the month was Matthew Coyle Garrymore. The winner for the November weekend away is Matthew Coyle Garrymore Next week's Jackpot is €3'800. Tickets can be bought in any local establishment
Membership/Lotto:
Ballinagh GAA have set up a direct debit for anyone wanting to do the lotto on a yearly basis. This works out at €5 a week, with the yearly membership and three lotto tickets every week included in this. This is a savings of €70 a year for anyone doing the lotto on a yearly basis. Cash or cheque will be also be accepted for this lotto incentive. Please contact any committee member for further details if you are interested in joining this fantastic offer.
