Master Fixtures 2016

The CCC has issued its Master Fixtures Plan 2016. This is too detailed to explain here but there is a link to the document on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

County Board Jailbreak!

Club members Mark Lynch, Tom Maguire and Lorraine Teevan are helping the County Board with this big fundraiser. They need to raise €3,000 each in bail money to get themselves out of Crumlin Road jail in Belfast on 18th March so they'll be organising events in the near future to help raise enough! Maybe you'll want to keep them in jail!

The order of business is they arrive at the jail on the 18th where they are processed, changed into prison gear, moved to their cells, locked down and spend the night there. Next day they're given a tour of the prison before their release. There's a hotel banquet that night where Damien O'Reilly and Marty Morrissey will be the comperes.

Mark and Tom kicked things off with a Jailbreak Coffee Morning last Sunday in Killygarry Community Centre. Thanks to everybody for coming along to support them.

Lorraine is holding a Jailbreak Table Quiz in The Kesh on Saturday 27th February to raise her bail money. Kick-off is 9PM and a table of four costs €40 (she had to raise her price, otherwise she'd have no chance of raising enough bail money!). You still have plenty of time to get your team together to help her out.

Club Jubilee

2016 is the 50th Jubilee year of the formation of the Club in 1966. There will be a Gala Dinner in October in the Hotel Kilmore. There will also be a number of events organised during the year to mark the occasion, including a Jubilee book.

Coaching/Training Courses

1. The new Children's/Designated Officer Course takes place in Kingspan Breffni Park on Thursday 18th February. Participants must have already completed the Code of Ethics/Basic Awareness course. (Anyone who has completed the Foundation coaching course will have this). Advance booking is essential - places limited to 18. Contact Anne on 0879874758 or [email protected]

2. Cavan GAA are hosting a coaching night in the Hotel Kilmore on Thursday February 11th at 7:30pm. All administrators and coaches from clubs are expected to attend. There will be a guest speaker and four workshops - see details on our Facebook page.

County Senior Men

Hard luck to Martin and the county team who lost by just one point to Derry last Saturday evening in Kingspan Breffni Park. There's a break now until Sunday 28th Feb when we play Meath in Navan @ 2PM.

County Senior Ladies

Elaine Walsh was on the starting lineup last Sunday in the second round of the National League Div 2 against Meath away in Ballinlough. It was another great Cavan win by 2-11 to 0-05 and Elaine also kept a clean sheet. Caitríona Smith made a substitute appearance. Courtney Rapple-McDowell and Rachel Talbot were also named on the bench. Next Sunday 14th we face Westmeath at home (probably the 3G in Kingspan Breffni Park) @ 2PM. Best of luck.

Club Senior Men

As the Senior squad continue their preparations for the new season, we've been drawn in Div 2 of the Spring League. It's been split into two groups - (1) Killygarry, Drumlane, Ballinagh, Belturbet, Killeshandra. (2) Crosserlough, Lavey, Cuchulainns, Drumgoon, Bailiebrough. Our first game will be away to Ballinagh. We're also in ACFL Division 2 for 2016 with the same nine teams (no groups) and our first game will be home to Bailieboro.

Club Senior Ladies

The Senior Ladies lost their first 9-a-side competition game away to Lurgan in very bad weather conditions last Sunday. Next Sunday (14th) we're at home to Gowna in the same competition.

Club Minor Men

The Minors had a comprehensive win over Belturbet last Saturday by 9-08 to 0-05 in tough conditions. There's a short break now until Saturday 20th when we're away to Ballinagh in the next round.

McRory Cup

St. Pat's quarter-final against last year's final opponents St. Pat's Dungannon hasn't been fixed yet. Darragh Kennedy, Conor Smith, Dara Brady and Anselm Lovett are on the squad. Conor picked up a knock in the last game but it looks like he'll be fit in time for the quarter-final.

National Draw

The GAA National Club Draw is now an annual event following its success over the past two years, in which over €4.5 million has been raised by clubs. The sole purpose of the draw is to assist clubs in their drive to raise much-needed funds to aid in the development and the promotion of our games. This is an opportunity for clubs to raise up to €20,000. Each club retains all the proceeds from the tickets sold by their club. All prizes are provided by the Ard Chomhairle. This year, the GAA is introducing a specific draw in each county for €1,000 for all clubs who sell a minimum of 200 tickets. Tickets cost €10 and are available from any committee member. Closing date for the draw is 15th Feb.
